Almondina Brand Cookies have such a wonderful story that reminds me of my great grandmother’s Tamale recipe. Yuval Zaliouk’s grandmother Dina had given away all but one of her special recipes that upon her passing she had given to her daughter (his mother). Which is the same thing my great grandmother had done with her Tamale recipe! Thankfully Zaliouk’s mother was able to pass on the tradition and with great blessing his family shared it with the world. These delicious “almond biscuits” were renamed Almondina after the amazing woman who had created them, his grandmother Dina.
Maestro Zaliouk is an awarded and honored musical conductor and his wife a former Royal Ballet ballerina. These three amazing lives intertwined to create not only an exquisite cookie, but there seems to be a hint of the music and the dance of life baked into them.. or at least I imagine these things in the morning with my coffee. I love history and elegant tales, classical music and the light crispness of the almond biscuits.
The Almondina Brand Cookies are very light, the crunch is coupled well with the soft raisins in some or the bits of nuts mingled with the various flavors. There are quite a few different kinds, though I like the Original Almondina the best.
- The Original
- Choconut (For Chocolate Lovers)
- AlmonDuo (Added Pistachios)
- Anniversary (The Original with a touch of Anise)
- BrainTreats (30% Oat Bran)
- Sesame (Added Roasted Sesame)
- Pumpkin Spice (Added Pumpkin Seeds & Fall Spices)
- Chocolate Cherry (Cherries & Dark Chocolate)
- Chocolate Dipped
- Yogurt Dipped Almondina BranTreats
- Milk Chocolate Almondina Delights (Smothered in Milk Chocolate)
The best thing is that they are all-natural, no added fat or salt, have no cholesterol and no preservatives. There are many pages on Almondina that discuss the health aspects of Almonds, the other nuts and ingredients within their cookies. If you are starting a New Years Resolution to be healthier (as I am) this is a great place to start in replacing the added calories and sugar from regular cookies.
Most healthy cookies and/or biscuits I have tried haven’t really sat well with my palate. I’m a sugar obsessed person, but these are quite surprising and addictive to snack on! They’re quite thin and that helps to portion things out as well. Overall, I think they are a delightful substitution for morning sticky sweets and couples well with steaming coffee and/or tea.
Purchase: They can be purchased at most Walmart’s, but you can check the Store Location listings for your state.
