An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars was released on July 3rd, just before the 4th of July! We were given a wonderful opportunity to host a party for the release, much to the excitement of a few little girls.

We also had a lot of boys, mostly hiding in furniture.
The movie was wonderful. Rachel, Sarah, my Mother and I all loved the movie just as much as the girls (and boys)! It is very heartfelt, genuine in it’s portrayal and the acting was amazing for a family film. We were all pretty glued into the movie. Actually, we had little Jojo there and he can’t help but dance around every time a song played.
If you haven’t been following the opening of An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars on inRandom, here is a clip from the movie!
A modern and heartwarming original story about a young girl whose dream to compete as a world class gymnast is jeopardized when she begins to have trouble in school, An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars™ helps girls learn to believe not only in their family and friends but also themselves. With more than 139 million books and 21 million dolls sold, American Girl® has earned the loyalty of millions of girls and the praise and trust of parents and educators. Just in time for the Summer Games, this fun family film on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD is available only at Wal-Mart, American Girl® retail stores and americangirl.com.
The girls love American Girl, love being the strongest word next to obsession. I’m not sure if there are any little girls that don’t love the dolls, the books and the movies. It was such a wonderful treat to be able to share with them An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars, a film that captures a persistent girl who learns to finally trust in her friends and also realizes that everyone has things to overcome in their own lives; with a little help. It really is beautiful and Nina Vardalos plays such a fantastic job as Mom, she’s funny and witty and overall lovingly supportive. I loved what she said in an interview about when she was asked to play the roll of McKenna’s Mom, it wraps up most of our feelings about American Girl and why we cherish them so much for the girls.
‘Please, please, please give it to me. ‘An American Girl?’ Are you kidding?’ I just want to be a hero to my daughter,” said Vardalos of her almost-7-year-old.
We were also given little An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars bracelets for the girls and activity sheets, which were a big hit. If you are planning on having your own An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars party, I honestly suggest picking up something similar I found, American Girl: Take the Challenge book that has a lot of entertaining things for girls to do at parties and also to challenge themselves with stretching and brain teasers. In fact, American Girl website has a ton of things for McKenna! Especially the doll, she’s adorable!
The movie is very inspiring to young girls to be active, to pursue their goals and to reach out. I loved the fact that it had shown that McKenna really needed help in school because a lot of kids do and they’re afraid to ask for help, whether from embarrassment or rejection. It gives an honest level to every girl out there that is pursuing a dream, that we can’t do it on our own, but with help and love from family and friends we can achieve and along the way realize that it is the journey that is the most rewarding.
We also had a little tea party… I will be sharing pics of that coming soon!
