~I received Arthur Goes Back to School on DVD for review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
With school back in session, it’s always nice for little ones to be able to see their favorite characters going through the same school adventures and this year Arthur Goes Back to School on DVD and takes all his little fans with him!
Arthur Read is an 8 year old Aardvark who attends 3rd grade at Lakewood Elementary School. The friends you see him around most frequently are Buster Baxter, Francine Frensky, Sue Ellen, Alan Powers (The Brain) and Binky Barnes. Buster is Arthur’s best friend who has the habit of eating junk foods, telling jokes and watching too much television. Binky acts like the big school bully, but he’s really just a big softy who loves ballet and butterflies. Alan gets the name The Brain from his friends due to his constant correcting of other people’s mistakes. Francine is overly competitive and very athletic and Sue Ellen is worldly and plays the diplomat.
Arthur and all of his friends go through situations that young children can relate to. From younger siblings pestering them, bullying, feeling different to being held back a grade, they each have situations that they deal with in school and home that really humanizes the show. All of them remain the same age and have since the mid 90s when it first aired, however the world around them does age with the present times.
In Arthur Goes Back to School, there are 4 school adventures, these include:
- To Eat or Not to Eat – A brand new candy bar is in town! But why is it making everyone act so strangely? And what exactly is this ingredient called Tri-Enzomated Zorn Jelly, anyway? Buster decides to do a little digging into these mystery chemicals before he takes his first bite but he-and all the other kids-may not find the truth appetizing.
- S.W.E.A.T. – It’s time for the kids at Lakewood Elementary to take the Stoddard-Wilkins Elementary Aptitude Test, or “S.W.E.A.T.” But with anxiety running high, it becomes clear that the kids need to learn some relaxation techniques. Luckily, Mrs. MacGrady is on hand to teach them a thing or two about de-stressing.
- Baseball Blues – It’s Grebelings season and George can’t wait to play! After all, no one knows more about baseball than George. But when he realizes knowledge of sinkers doesn’t guarantee success in the field, will he throw in the towel?
- Brain’s Biggest Blunder – When Brain gets teamed with Buster and Binky in the annual Arithmattack competition, he immediately enrolls Buster in binomial boot camp. Can Brain transform Buster into a mathematic marvel? Or will he be forced to eat humble pi?
This is a great set for new little learners to children aged 8-9. Arthur has been one of the top animations for years and a fan favorite on PBS since the beginning.
