~I received an Audiobooks.com subscription for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions and stories are my own.~
I have a deep love of reading. It is probably why I went to graduate school to get my master’s degree in library and information science. I was a librarian for several years before I stayed home with my girls. I read a lot of books but with two girls at home that usually means I am reading children’s books to them. For some reason I have never tried listening to an audiobook before. I guess I never really thought about it. So I decided to try out Audiobooks.com and see if maybe I could get into a book being read to me.
Browsing a list of books online can be a little overwhelming so I decided to listen to The Hunger Games since it had been recommended to me so many times and it is exactly the kind of book I would read. Their app is easy to navigate and has a few options including speeding up the reading if you prefer. In no time I was listening to the book.
I try and go to the gym a few times a week and have always just listened to music on the treadmill but it has never really motivated me the way it has other people. I press play on The Hunger Games and I am immediately sucked into the story. For me listening to a good book at the gym is so much better than listening to music. Time seems to fly by since I am so focused on the book and I find myself working out even longer than I intended. This is no fluke as each time I go back to the gym the same thing happens. Of course it all depends on finding a book you are really into. In no time I find myself hooked on Audiobooks.com.
One of my all time favorite books that I like to recommend is Ender’s Game. Please don’t judge it by the film as I was not a big fan of. The book is truly amazing and is sort of a coming of age tale. There are more books in the series and those are really good too but not as good as the first one. There is even a parallel book called Ender’s Shadow. That means that it takes place during the same time as Ender’s Game but from a different character’s point of view. The entire series might be my all time favorite.
An Audiobooks subscription would make a great gift for people that travel a lot or ones that are minimalists and like to read. My husband is in the car for work hours and hours a week and this way he can listen to the books that interest him (normally historical non-fiction). This would also be great for people like my brother who live far from home and prefer a minimalist approach so a bunch of audiobooks don’t crowd his apartment and instead stay on his app for when he wants to read them. I like them for us moms that might not have time to read but have time to listen to a book read to us in a car on the way to pick up the kids or like me at night while working on the computer. Audiobooks.com is the surprise gift that I had no idea was so great and now I hope to inspire others to listen to a few good reads too.
