I joked with my husband once about how I fell in love with him because of his shoes. I remember waiting to meet him at the airport, having not seen him in 15 years, and wondering what he might look like face to face again. The very first thing I saw when walking around the corner and seeing him for the first time was his shoes (black and black canvas) and thinking to myself, “Thank god he doesn’t wear tennis shoes with jeans.” It wasn’t just his shoes, he was gorgeous in a laid back old school orange tab jeans, black soft flowing button up and those black vegan sneakers. He was just one of those guys that knew what he liked, knew what he wanted and his clothes took on a form of that confidence.
Our lives moved pretty rapidly after we knew we wanted to spend the rest of it together. Our families already knew each other as we had grown up in the same small town and our old friends were still there even though we had both ran off to various places around the world. I had wanted to have a year to plan our wedding and in the midst of that year long preparation a baby made an appearance. Beautiful moments turned into days, turned into months and years and now on the verge of our 6th Father’s Day together, I started seeing how time has taken its toll on my husband’s wardrobe.
Through the years my husband has shelved his style for laid back worn out jeans and t-shirts. He rarely, rarely, ever purchases anything for himself but is always buying clothes for our tot and letting the teen and I go shopping. I rarely ever purchased anything because of his previous particularities in clothing, but I noticed after his birthday last month that he has been feeling his age and distressing about his wardrobe. After his last lay off, he hadn’t had anything to even interview in and so when given the opportunity to participate in Sears #ManofStyle for Father’s Day I jumped on it! I wanted to show him that he is still that incredibly sexy man that I first met for the second time all those years ago.
The boys and I went on a mission to Sears to find a Father’s Day outfit that he could wear out to dinner and to upcoming interviews. The goal was to find an outfit that still took in mind the particular things he liked, his favorite color and the merging of his old school style with current day comforts. We found a great outfit at Sears during their Father’s Day sale/promotion!
I picked out a black button up from Covington and a pair of dress slacks from the same brand. I really loved the way the clothing felt and that it has modern sensibilities in the shirt style. The top could be worn casually with jeans, but also dressed up in the slacks for interviews and our soon-coming Father’s Day dinner!
One of the things I noticed when taking the before/after photos of the clothes is my husband’s stance. Although he felt a little awkward modeling for me (amusing as he is married to a past model!), I could see a complete difference in the way he carried himself in the Sears style; even his expression changed. You could really tell he was proud and that he felt good in the outfit. We were all so excited to see him dressed up!
The Shop Your Way Rewards program also allowed me to get money/points back! Since I spent just over $50 on the outfits, I had gotten $10 Award Card! That’s 10,000 points on top of all the great Sears fashion! It is available to use after 6/17 and before 7/13, which happens to be our anniversary so I will be coming back!
I can’t wait to take my husband out for a Father’s Day dinner. It is so nice to see him out of jeans and worn tees and cleaned up. Having the time to look through the Sears styles I realized that he could change up a lot of his wardrobe inexpensively and not have to feel as if he never has anything to wear. Father’s Day sales are offering a great opportunity to help freshen up our men and their wardrobes and show them they are our men of style.
