WonderMind is a complete five-piece interactive learning system designed to work together to reinforce learning in a fun and engaging way. Developed by world-renowned child development experts at Benesse Corporation, a global leader in education and publishing, WonderMind provides parents with the basic tools they need to help their child get the best possible start in life and lay the foundation for academic success.
The day I scuttled my tot off to his first day of school I was contacted by WonderMind Kids. Little did I know at the time that this would become an amazing little tool for my son’s bridge between early education at school and at home. He’s about to be 4 years old (20 more days!), but he’s a little behind other kids in his age group, which is why he has an amazing group of teachers assisting him in Language, Cognition, Occupational and Physical Therapy! In other words, he has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that corresponds specifically to his needs.
Two areas they are working with my son in Early Education are:
- Cognition: The ability to understand and reason how things work.
- Occupational Therapy: The ability to use and understand basic tools (scissors, pencils, etc.).
- Family Fun Show DVD
- Teegy Puppet
- Picture Book – Time Together Play Book
- Educational Toy – Colorshape Blocks
- Parenting Guide
The Kids (4-5) Kit has the same basics of the Toddler, except the Book and the Educational Toy are different and apply to other developmental needs. These are currently the only two kits available in the U.S. However, in the Parenting Guide you can see a wide variety of other tools that are used in the Annual Lineup, which I hope will eventually be available for us U.S. parents!
The Activity Book, or Time Together Play Book, is designed to help your child deepen his or her understanding of the topics introduced in the Family Fun Show DVD. With your child, you go over various topics and questions stimulating his or her curiosity and enforcing what you watched together.
The Family Fun Show DVD is a program that is designed specifically for children and based on their limited attention spans, it is only 20 minutes long! Using interactive characters, as well as Teegy the Puppet that comes along with the Kit, it discusses sharing, healthy foods, animals, matching, colors and more! The Time Together Play Book has reusable stickers so that they can be used for multiple activities in the book and enhance what your child is learning on the DVD!
In an example: You can go over the section on sharing on the DVD, sing the sharing songs with Teegy and his friends, interact with your child with Teegy Puppet showing how he would share and then follow up with the Activity Book section on sharing! Having fun and learning something with your child for 20 minutes out of the day really stimulates cognition, social skills as well as bonding.
My son’s most favorite part of the kit is the Colorshape Blocks! They are also one of the most useful tools for our home. As I said before, my son is in both Cognition and Occupational Therapy, so the Colorshape Blocks are incredibly helpful as well as fun! He learns how to put something together, how to take it apart, how to work out problems and use his imagination. The Time Together Play Book has multiple different objects that you can make together and we noticed after a few days of doing the same ones, he really got into making up his own objects or adding things to the ones in the book!
The Parenting Guide has been my #1 Tool for bridging early educational from school to home. It has 7 ways we can spend 20 minutes learning and also showcases which areas he would learn the most in. In example, the DVD is effective in areas of:
- Physical Exercise
- Social Skills
- Daily Skills
Like I mentioned earlier, it shows the Annual Lineup for various ages. In the Parenting Guide it also has 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, and ages 5-6! As your child grows, so does Teegy! This is a wonderful way for kids to self-project and begin to understand their own growth.
At first I wasn’t sure how well received Teegy the Puppet would be. My son hasn’t really been into dolls or puppets, but we’ve been trying because one of the necessary things for him to learn is how to role-play. In the beginning he just kind of stared at it and put it away, but I kept trying and now he’s become a great lesson and friend! The Teegy Puppet is not only used along with the DVDS, but he’s also teaching my son how to hug. Which is probably one of the most beautiful things that have come out of this entire kit. To teach my son that small significant point of bonding with another person is truly something special.
On the 31st was our very first Parent’s as Teachers meeting and I shared with his ‘teacher’ the things we’ve been learning with the WonderMind Kit and how it has been such a great help. As he is learning these basic elements in school, so are we mimicking the same aspects at home, which is really important for parents with developmentally delayed children! But your child doesn’t have to have delays in order to receive the amazing benefits of the WonderMind Kids Program, they are all things that children begin to learn naturally and gives each of us parents the ability to bond while going over the fundamentals of understanding.
I couldn’t be more thankful and more appreciative of WonderMind Kids and the opportunity to have reviewed the Toddler Learning Program. At some point we’ll be ready to move on to the Kids Learning Program and it is a blessing to know that I will always have something here at home to continue the benefits of my son’s early education.
I received a kit for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions are my own and/or my families and are not influenced by any form of compensation.
