I’ve recently gotten into the kick of making my own homemade snacks for the family. Previously I had shared a Spicy Nut Mix, so I’m really excited to feature an easy homemade granola bar recipe using the new DOVE® Fruit! If you haven’t had a chance to try them yet, then you are in for a big treat! And if you haven’t already, make sure you snag the coupon for your shopping trip. Now let’s get to baking!
The best thing about making snacks at home (other than the cost savings) is that you can personalize them for different members of your family. You take a base recipe and then add in a few ingredients that are special to them. For instance, I made this delicious Almond & Chocolate Cranberry Granola Bar recipe, but since Tot cannot have tree nuts, I made him his own Peanut Pumpkin bars! When you go to make your granola bars, think about what special little ingredients your family members love.
To get prepared, you will need wax paper on a flat surface, a cookie sheet wrapped with aluminum foil and a small sauce pan. Preheat your oven to 325′.
- 2 Cups Oats
- 1/2 Cup Slivered Almonds
- 1/2 Cup Sweetened Coconut
- 1/2 Cup DOVE® Fruit Chocolate Cranberries
- 1 Cup Honey
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/8 Tsp Salt
- 1/8 Tsp Cinnamon
Pour your oats, slivered almonds and coconut onto your cookie sheet and bake in the oven for 10 minutes (or until coconut is toasted). I pulled mine out halfway through and kind of tossed it with a fork.
While your dry ingredients are toasting, pour the honey, vanilla, salt and cinnamon into your sauce pot and heat on med-low until the honey is no longer thick and easy to pour. When the dry ingredients are toasted and the honey is ready, mix it all into a big bowl.
Once it is mixed well, you can add your DOVE® Fruit Chocolate Cranberries. You can find these at Walmart! I could tell everyone loved them when I went out shopping because last week they were all gone. I had to wait until they restocked the front!
It was really worth waiting for these delicious little bits of chocolate covered fruit, because they’re made with REAL fruit and that silky smooth dark chocolate. I do recommend that since some of them are a little big, to slice them in half them before adding them into the bowl. This also lets little pieces of chocolate crumble in and make it extra special!
Now that you have everything together, pour it all back onto your cookie sheet and bake for 25 minutes. Once the granola on the outside has hardened and cooled, you can simply pull up the aluminum foil and set it down on your wax paper space for wrapping!
I wrap mine up and add little heart stickers on the outside. It sends a little love with every lunch and snack bag. It’s the little things that mean the most sometimes.
You can mix things up by using the DOVE® Fruit Chocolate Covered Cherries or Blueberries as well. Here’s your own $1 OFF Coupon to use at Walmart to pick up your favorite bag!
