Garfield Recipes with Cattitude

First of all, I had never made a lasagna recipe prior to receiving Garfield Recipes with Cattitude by Gooseberry Patch. Even though Italian dishes make up the fabric of many of our home meals, it was just one dish I never tried due to thinking it was either a) to difficult to make or b) would take too long to make when in all actuality, lasagna is an extremely easy dish and doesn’t take very long at all to prep and bake!

Garfield Recipes with Cattitude is filled with so many different styles of lasagna, many I had no idea even existed! If anyone would know all the different ways to make it from Bachelor Style to Creamy Chicken, it would be Garfield. And although Garfield Recipes includes over 230 different recipes, I couldn’t pass up making his ultimate favorite – Classic Lasagna.

Garfield Recipes with Cattitude

I love how the recipe book is a compilation of Gooseberry Patch’s style mixed with the artwork from Jim Davis, Garfield’s creator, and includes helpful tips and easy substitutions along the way.

Gooseberry Patch Tips

For the recipe and instruction list, visit Gooseberry Patch’s Classic Lasagna page where you can print out the recipe and keep it for later!

Sauce for Lasagna

While preparing the lasagna noodles (as instructed by the box) add 1/2 lb of hamburger, 1/2 lb of Italian sausage and 1 diced onion to a skillet and brown, drain and return to skillet.

Add garlic, undrained tomatoes, tomato paste and Italian seasoning and simmer.

Lasagna cheese mixture

While the lasagna noodles are preparing and the skillet is simmering, blend together Parmesan cheese, ricotta cheese, egg and seasonings in a bowl.

Once everything is prepped, spread 1/2 beef mixture on the bottom of your lightly greased lasagna dish (preferably 13×9 baking pan), then layer as follows: 1/3 each of noodles, cheese mixture, beef mixture and then mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers and end with mozzarella.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45min to 1hr on 350′.

Gooseberry Patch Classic Lasagna

The recipe for Classic Lasagna was delicious! It was also really easy to make and provided many leftovers! I actually made a whole pan just for my Mom & Step Dad.

You do remember Garfield, don’t you? I am a fan from back in the day. I used to have a stuffed Garfield suction-cupped to the back window of my first car back in the late 80’s. I hope I didn’t reveal my age in that confession. And, while Garfield never really went out of style, he’s back. He’s current. He’s in the kitchen. He’s teamed up with Gooseberry Patch and written a cookbook, Garfield…Recipes with Cattitude!Contrary to popular belief, Garfield is NOT a lazy cat. He’s been busy developing, and definitely testing, recipes in these categories: *Breakfast is Served…Time to Get Up! *First Lunch, Then a Catnap *Snack Attack! *Lotsa Lasagna, Pasta and Pizza *It’s Dinner Time…Now!!! *Dinner is Over…What’s for Dessert? In addition to the recipes, you’ll be entertained by Garfield, John, and Odie graphics throughout the cookbook. The comic strips bring back happy memories for me. Those of you who know Garfield know what his favorite food is – lasagna! As you can see, there is a chapter dedicated to lasagna. There is a lasagna recipe to satisfy every Italian craving from traditional dishes such as Classic Lasagna, Bow-Tie Lasagna, and Cheesey Lasagna Rolls to updated versions such as Tex-Mex Chicken Lasagna and Creamy Chicken Lasagna.Garfield has been known to eat a pizza or two…or three..so I chose to feature French Bread Sausage Pizza from the chapter, Lotsa Lasagna, Pasta and Pizza. My sons were in awe as I prepared this pizza. I guess I should make homemade pizza more often. They thought it was a sandwich and wanted a piece before I put it in the oven. I had to insist that they wait until it was cooked through. The pizza turned out perfect! My husband and sons quickly tore through it leaving nothing behind. It’s definitely something I’m going to make again in the future.
