Mr. & Mrs. Rue
If questioning would make us wise
No eyes would ever gaze in eyes;
If all our tale were told in speech
No mouths would wander each to each.
Were spirits free from mortal mesh
And love not bound in hearts of flesh
No aching breasts would yearn to meet
And find their ecstasy complete.
For who is there that lives and knows
The secret powers by which he grows?
Were knowledge all, what were our need
To thrill and faint and sweetly bleed?.
Then seek not, sweet, the “If” and “Why”
I love you now until I die.
For I must love because I live
And life in me is what you give.
I know you waited such a long time, I know that life bumped your day out to make room for trials no one could imagine. Though you endured and your love, through everything … everything .. everything.. survived. You made it, time and again, through the shadows. Yesterday was your day to shine and you were beautiful, my friend, beautiful. The last bright ray of sunlight in Autumn. I hope you are enjoying the deepening glow of the ‘day after’ and realizing that even if nothing feels changed because you have been together so long as it is, that you at least had one day out of so many where it was just you… just him… and the celebration of the love that deeply touched so many of us.
