~I received a Coolibar sample for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions and stories are my own.~
I live in Florida where it is extremely sunny pretty much all year long and because of our great weather we also play outside almost every day. Protecting my daughters from the sun is actually a super important topic for me as I myself had basal cell skin cancer when I was only 19 years old and that was only from playing outside as I never went tanning or anything like that. Ever since then I make sure we are covered up as much as possible. I really like the sun protection clothing line from Coolibar because they carry clothes for every member of the family so it is a one stop shopping place for my sun protection needs. Of course the little kid stuff is often the cutest.
The Girl’s Water Jacket is a chlorine and saltwater resistant aqua SUNTECT® fabric so that means it is much lighter than typical swimwear. It can be used day in and day out both in and out of the water. Even in the heat of the summer wearing this is cool against the skin. My girls have been wearing long sleeve sun protection for years and have never complained about being hot in them. Its quick-dry performance and superior breathability makes this fabric comfortable to wear even in the hottest weather.
Personally my favorite feature would be that it zips up in the front. That means it is easy to get off and on. Years ago I would put the tight pull over the head kind on my daughter and that did nothing but irritate her since it was tight pulling it on and then she wouldn’t want to wear it. The zip feature is just so convenient! Thank goodness it is machine washable because I don’t have time for hand wash! I then line dry it on a rack in my laundry room. Of course the important feature is that it is Rated UPF 50+.
Coolibar has several awards for their products including the American Academy of Dermatology Seal of Recognition; Skin Cancer Foundation’s Seal of Recommendation; Melanoma International Foundation’s first officially endorsed sun protective apparel and Coolibar’s School Sun Hat Program was awarded the 2010 Gold Triangle from the American Academy of Dermatology.
You don’t have to be swimming to wear sun protection. We wear ours at the playground, at the park, walking the beach, hanging out at theme parks and more. When they do swim in their gear I make sure it is form fitting so it does not bother them while they are in the water. I don’t mind them wearing it looser when we are just enjoying the outdoors. Coolibar really do have a HUGE selection of gear. They have everyday pants, sunglasses, umbrellas, fitness gear, sunscreens, hats and of course swimwear for all kinds of body types.
I really like seeing that in today’s culture it is “cool” and popular to be covered up in the sun. With so many choices there are sure to be pieces that all your family members would enjoy wearing. Sun protection is standard operating procedure for my family but it sure is more fun with the cute prints, styles and designs from Coolibar!
