Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables is the first DVD in a series designed to encourage healthy habits in young children.
Unfortunately my kids have picked up on my picky eating habits. My son mostly eats meat and my daughter only wants bread or pasta. Needless to say they aren’t getting a very balanced meal too often. I have always been a little picky when it comes to healthy foods. I’m not a huge fan of fruits and veggies either. Unfortunately, my kids are taking after me and not my husband in that department.
Copy-Kids Media came up with Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables DVD to help young kids try more healthy foods. The concept came after the producer noticed that her child was more likely to try new foods when she saw another child doing it first, after that she decided to see if it worked on video too or only in person. She found that it also worked on video.
My children love watching new shows so when they saw I had a new movie they were pretty excited. When I first put the DVD in a menu came up showing 6 different veggies and if you hit “next” it has 6 different fruits. You start by selecting the food that you want and then it shows a video of children with that item. The kids explore it a little, pick at it, and eat it. I like that you can select the food of your choice instead of having to watch them all in a certain order. Some foods both my kids eat, like strawberries so I know they don’t need to watch that paticular one if they don’t want to, but they did anyways. I wasn’t really thinking when I started the video and had wished I had more of the foods shown in my house so they could actually try them!
My kids watch shows over and over so I made sure to buy the foods that I wanted them to try so that they could explore them as well and hopefully try them after watching other kids eating them. When I went to the produce section my son immediately saw the bell peppers from the video and said “Look mom, peppers from the movie.” He still didn’t want to try them though and that’s ok, I didn’t expect them to eat everything from the video. On our shopping trip we decided to get raspberries, bananas, cucumbers, broccoli, carrots, and corn. My son is already a fan of corn, carrots and bananas, but my daughter doesnt eat any of the ones I listed. We put on the video and I decided to start with the veggies first so she didn’t fill up on sweet stuff. Neither kid really liked the broccoli or cucumbers but they did actually try them and for us that is a huge step! My daugther had a good time playing with her corn and did actually eat some of it. Raspberries were a big hit though. Neither of my kids have tried them before, I’m not sure why i’ve never bought them before but I gave them each a bowl of raspberries and they gobbled them right up! My daughter actually said she needed more raspberries!
Each chapter features several adorable and entertaining children aged 9 months to 4 years, eating with joy and delight. It’s a simple but revolutionary tool for parents who want their kids to develop a life-long habit of healthy eating. The DVD includes an on-camera discussion about healthy eating with renowned pediatrician Dr. Jay Gordon, plus a section of delightful outtakes
