Creating Holiday Crafts is a great way to spend time with your family and make yearly keepsake items. Tot and I have been working on coming up with new ideas all week. He had decided on creating a Snowflake Ornament, but since Judah loves, loves sleigh bells, I also decided to create a centerpiece for the table just for him called The Bell Tree.
I’ve always loved centerpieces that are created from branches. They’re not only easy to make, but they bring a bit of nature inside and when done correctly can truly create an inviting table. This is the perfect time of year to collect branches outside since the leaves have fallen and this craft is simple enough to do with little ones who might like to get a little messy.
Things You Need:
- Decorative Vase
- Crayola Twistables Slick Stix
- Crayola Super Sparkle Washable Glitter Glue
Collect as many branches in your desired length for your vase. Make sure you set the branches in the vase to get an idea of how many you would like, how tall you want them and how ‘clean’ (devoid of smaller sticks) you would like them to be. Once you have your branches, wipe them off with a lightly damp cloth.
This is the messy part! Using the Crayola Twistables Slick Stixs Super Smooth Crayons, color the branches. These are really fun to use since they’re almost like coloring with pastels. It does get a little messy since you are going to blend the color onto the wood, smoothing with your fingers, but don’t worry! This washes away with water!
After smoothing the color over the sticks, use the Crayola Glitter Glue to create ‘ice’ on your branches. You can do this by swirling, dripping and making little designs. I’m using Super Sparkle Washable Glitter Glue to give our branches a bit of shimmer!
Once your branches are finished, all you have to do is put your garland of choice inside your vase and then place your branches in as desired.
Place your bells on the branches and you have a beautiful little festive centerpiece that little hands love.
Creating the Snowflake Ornament is very, very simple. All you need is Crayola Model Magic in your choice of color and the Super Sparkle Washable Glitter Glue.
Using the Model Magic, have your child make 3 rolls of the same size and one a bit longer and cross them. Then roll tiny dots for the points and one big dot for the middle. Make sure you create a hole at the top of the ornament for a ribbon!
Let air dry for 24hrs and then using the Glitter Glue, dab a bit on the tiny dots and put the date in the middle. It’s really easy to write with the glue because the tube opening is very small.
Once the glue dries, you can put a little ribbon through the hole on the top and you have a beautiful Snowflake Ornament!
You can honestly create whatever type of ornament you would like using the Model Magic. The nice thing is that it stays light and fluffy even when dry. I love working with it because it doesn’t break off in pieces and crumble up and it’s easy for Tot to mold, unlike clay.
I absolutely love using crayola products. They honestly know what children love and it makes creating crafts, especially around the Holidays, a lot of fun for families.
Have you created any Holiday crafts with your children this year?
