~I am a Fox Home Entertainment Insider and received products for the purpose of reviewing The Croods. Opinions & stories are my own. Many thanks to FHEI for sending the kids The Croods bags filled with fun!~
The weekend before last we got to have a The Croods Playdate Party. Other than a few fumbles due to some kids not being able to come, we had a really great time watching the movie! It was our first time seeing The Croods since we didn’t get to watch it at the theater and I really loved the story. It’s no wonder it is currently the #1 Blu-ray/DVD in America!
I believe what makes it so special is that it is a story that resonates with most families. As parents we try so hard to protect our children, especially from unknown dangers. What is difficult sometimes is trying to find a balance between protecting our children and not holding them back from going out into the world, or “following the sun” as Guy puts it. It really pulled my heartstrings because I have a (soon to be) 16 year old who has already begun reaching outward into a world that is becoming slowly foreign to me. Like Grugg, I have to also learn to evolve and understand that his climb towards his own future doesn’t mean I am left behind.
Before I get to sappy, I wanted to share some of the party ideas I had come up with. Whether you just want to have some fun with your family or make a playdate party of your own, these are some great “Crood” ideas!
Every party must have food and these were inspired by the movie! In the beginning The Croods family goes out hunting for something to eat which involves an elaborate ordeal to get a single egg. So my teen and I decided it would be a great idea to have hard-boiled eggs decorated like Dino (or Ramu) eggs.
I was also inspired to make a Peanut Butter Granola Dip that reminded me of colors from the beautiful jungle they come across. All the deep greens and reds intermixed with the earth were stunning.

Put a dollop of peanut butter at the bottom of a small bowl (or a big one if you are doing a party platter), crumble granola on top and then chop up strawberries and sprinkle on top! Stick the celery sticks in and viola!
Of course you can’t forget the popcorn! The scene where they accidentally set things on fire and popcorn starts flying is amazing! I had to keep my tot from throwing his popcorn everywhere.
Now onto the fun! Do you remember those adorable The Croods Printable Masks from my last post? Well, we received some already in color and snipped them out. The boys had fun pretending to be their favorite animals from the movie.
You can also grab the printable The Croods Frame to put a family photo inside! Tot made one for him and his Daddy.
We put together puzzles and also went outside to collect things to make our own artwork. A big part of The Croods is Grug telling his family stories and keeping their history in paint drawings. We decided to capture something that reminded us of the Fall. You don’t have to have a canvas as we used, just have some fun painting on rocks or using leafs on construction paper!
The greatest thing about having a playdate party, is being able to share it with your best friend. Tot and his best friend laid out on their new The Croods blue blankets, watched the movie and spent the day together. Watching them reminded me of how far they have both come and how they are both still moving forward.
And also reminded me of that part of the movie where Grug screams, “Release the baby!” Because they all went crazy for awhile.
You can learn more about the Blu-ray/DVD and watch the trailer on my Release Post. Don’t forget to print out your own Masks, Frames and fun games! The important thing is to spend time with your family, be silly for a little while, laugh and snuggle up with some popcorn. One day our children are going to start finding their own suns and traveling where the light brings them and the one thing we want to make sure they take with them is memories like this.
You can pick up a copy of The Croods on Blu-ray Combo with the Limited Edition Belt on Amazon!
