I am constantly telling my husband that there is no way I can do anything with my toddler in tow and of course he argues with me constantly explaining the dozens of times he has done things with Judah. I agree! He is somehow magically capable of cleaning, rearranging closets, putting in new door handles, painting, etc with our tot, but for some reason – some odd reason that must have something to do with Mommyhood, I cannot even leave the room without something happening.
Yesterday I wanted to put our comforter in the duvet. My toddler was standing not even 10 ft in front of me while I was doing this. I was at the bottom of the bed and he was at the right of the bed with his Rockin’ Ernie and the next thing I know one of my figurines is on the floor broken. I still have no idea how it fell and didn’t even hear it happen. It was there one second and not the next! So Judah moved away from our nightstand table and was rockin’ his Ernie on the floor.
At this point I am just placing the duvet on the bed and he decides to take Ernie in the bathroom, not a big deal, he’s always playing drums on things and he’s right next to me. What could happen??
That’s what I thought until not even 2 minutes after I got the blanket on the bed and stepped into the bathroom to see my 3 year old rockin’ out with his Rockin’ Ernie in the toilet. Inside of the toilet to be exact.
And if that was the end of it then I think I would have had an easy day, but then later on – just after we had successfully went potty – I was getting things ready for bath time. I brought him into the bathroom and went to change his clothes and guess what? The underwear was wet. And you know what happened? Well, of course it was because he made an accident, but really … what really happened was… I stepped out of the room. I seriously think that’s what it was! Somehow if I just take my eyes away for a moment accidents happen of all sorts!
That was just one day. One day. It doesn’t include the times I’ve answered the phone to find books ripped up on the floor even if I am standing in the same room and only answered a 5 minute phone call. Or how juice or markers wind up like artwork all over his body when I seemed to just go in the kitchen to grab a snack. There is no end to the magic mischief of a toddler in the very few moments that Mom turns away and somehow, in some way, this NEVER happens to Daddy!
I cannot be the only one this weird occurrence happens to or the only wife whose husband thinks she’s went bonkers. Does this happen to you? Are there strange loopholes in space and time between Moms and Tots where they escape and all the sudden accidents happen right in front of your face without us being aware?
|Judah and his Best Buddy.|
Though, I must say, after I cleaned up Rockin’ Ernie and blow dried him off so Judah wouldn’t be sad about losing his best friend. (Rockin’ Ernie got washed up! So he says.) I had to smile. The face of my tot when Mommy walked into the bathroom and saw Rockin’ Ernie in the toilet was priceless.
