Entertain Like a Texas Gentleman Review

Entertain Like a Gentleman

Entertain Like a Texas Gentleman presents over 75 original recipes developed over Harap’s years of experience cooking, entertaining, and teaching cooking classes in the Austin, Texas area. Part cookbook, part how-to-guide, Entertain Like a Texas Gentleman is organized into 16 chapters cover all types of gatherings, from Super Bowl parties to Scotch tastings, intimate dinner parties to breakfast in bed. The impressive yet easy-to-prepare recipes use common ingredients and are interspersed with practical tips to help the host keep the festivities on track.

I must say, the idea of a cookbook for men intrigued me. As a mom who stays home all day with the kids, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, I’m pretty exhausted by the end of the week. The idea of having my husband cook dinner for me sounded great! However, he is not the best chef in the world! When we first got together he cooked a lot, but I also did not know how!

I brought the book, Entertain Like a Texas Gentleman home last week and showed it to him, but really didn’t even think he had picked it up yet! It hadn’t moved from the table so I figured I’d have to nag him to make me something! Although when I mentioned it he said he would. I had flipped through it myself and found many yummy dishes. My favorite ones that really caught my eye were; Balsamic chocolate truffles, Grilled fruit and pound cake napolean with berry sauce and tequila whipped cream, sinful vanilla bourbon rice pudding, champagne strawberry soup, just to name few!

Much to my surprise, the boys had planned a meal without me knowing. I actually got to sleep in a little today and my boys got out the book and made me a meal from the breakfast in bed section! They made Brioche French Toast Stuffed with Strawberries & Cream! Talk about delicious! My husband said it was pretty easy to make and the directions were very easy to follow. When you bite into the bread it is a pleasant surprise to find the strawberry and cream filling. The flavor is amazing! Both my kids were pretty impressed with the taste too! I wish I could have gotten a picture of it first, but I did not realize til it was half gone that they had gotten the recipe from the cookbook!

I really had hoped my husband would prepare dinner though, I really wanted to watch him cook for once! That way I could’ve teased him along the way! I can’t complain though a delicious meal in bed was a fantastic surprise! He actually said it was kinda fun and agreed to make me a dinner soon so that I can enjoy watching him cook. What a good husband.

I like that after each section they have blank pages for “culinary notes” then you can add any notes you have while making the meal, what a great idea! How many times while cooking have we thought to ourselves “next time I’ll put more of this, or less of this”, etc. Not only does this book have great recipes, it has wonderful tips to help men throw great parties! It has 25 tips for entertaining as well as tips for a well equipped kitchen. This book also has suggestions on how much you will need. It gives a guideline for how many drinks, food, and equipment you will need.

Working in commercial kitchens and catering halls to help put himself through Cornell University, David built a solid knowledge base of culinary fundamentals. His cooking style is very much influenced by his global travels and blends international culinary techniques with local and seasonal products. David teaches a wide range of classes, including many on entertaining, at the Central Market Cooking School and hosts an underground supper club, Austin Bite Club. He is also a partner and Global Practice Leader with Stanton Chase International, a leading global executive search firm.

This book would make a wonderful gift for Valentine’s Day! You can buy it for yourself to surprise your lucky lady, and ladies you can buy it for that special man in your life so he can spoil you!
