My trip in 2006 with my whole family we stayed on the big Island of Hawaii. The best part of this Island was the volcanoes. We went to Hawaii Volcano National Park This was truly a great experience. I recommend going early in the day tho. We did other things first and got there kinda late and it is about an hour drive into the park with breathtaking stops along the way. We finally got to the volcano around dusk which worked out nice because we could see the red lava flowing down the side of the volcano but it would’ve been nice to take our time in the park that day. We walked a long ways on the old lava rocks but never got really close, the ash in the air was making it hard to breathe! There is a spot where the lava flows into the ocean which is amazing as well!
One of my favorite places I’ve ever been was Hawaii. I’ve been there three times total. Once with my family when I was 12, and then with my husband on our honeymoon, and then my husband and I went with my whole family in 2006. So I have been there as a kid, an adult, and as an adult with my family. All 3 times have been amazing. I truly believe Hawaii has something for everyone.
I must say the best place to visit for me, was Honolulu. Older people do not agree as it is sorta touristy but that is the stuff I love! I love all the little shops and mini golf places! My husband and I stayed on Honolulu on our honeymoon but I was also there when I was a kid with my family. Hawaii has amazing snorkeling. It is something everyone should really do at some place in their life! It is just breathtaking. The water is so clear there it is so beautiful! You would swim through swarms of fish! We saw giant sea turtles, sting rays, eels, and millions of fish! AMAZING!
Honolulu is also home to the Pearl Harbor Memorial, remembering the devastating attack on Pear Harbor. December 7, 2011, marks the 70th anniversary of the attacks. It is pretty amazing to visit and explore the area. You can see remains of the ship in the water and it is still leaking traces of oil to this day! (at least that was true when we were there in 2004) I went there with my parents when I was a kid and then again on my honeymoon. I appreciated it more as an adult but it is still a must see!
On our honeymoon we took a Dolphin Cruise, it was great! We saw TONS of dolphins, they swam right along the boat, in front, and behind it as well! It was truly unforgettable! On the big Island of Hawaii we took a Whale Watching cruise but there is a law, or was at the time, you couldn’t get very close because they were endangered or becoming that way, I don’t remember exactly what the reason was, but it was a little disappointing not being able to get very close. The dolphin cruise was the best tho!
Hawaii is such a beautiful place, they have tons of different tours to go on and I recommend checking into them. It is a great place for any age. Don’t forget the beaches too! An important tip to remember tho, do not leave your purse in the car! We went to the North Shore to see the big waves and surfers and while we played on the beach someone broke into two of our vehicles and stole my mom’s purse, my aunt, and my grandma’s purse! The local police said that is a huge problem there! So don’t leave your valuables behind! But do visit Hawaii at least once because it is too beautiful to miss!
