My husband got me a wonderful present one year for Christmas. I believe it was 9-10 years ago, we weren’t even married yet, but he got train tickets for the two of us as well as my mom and brother to go to Niagara Falls. I was a little upset at first that he spent so much but that quickly went away! Niagara Falls is one of the most beautiful places in the World!
View from our hotel in Canada
We decided to stay on the Canada side of the Falls. Being from the US I thought it would be fun to stay in another country, even if it’s right across the street! Of course we flip flopped back and forth between US and Canada. Both sides have great things to see and do.
Maid of the Mist
An attraction you can’t miss is the famous Maid of the Mist boat ride. Boat tours started in 1846. It takes you so close to the falls, tourists are provided raincoats and you need them! It is amazing to be so close to the falls. You can see in the picture above the boat entering the base of the falls. It is truly something you must experience. You can board from both the Canada and US sides. It is unbelievable how noisy the falls are as well, the closer you get the louder you have to yell to be heard. This attraction is seasonal so be sure to check dates before planning your trip.
Cave of the Winds
I don’t remember if the Cave of the Winds wasn’t open when we were there or why we did not do this. I got a picture of it, but either it wasn’t open for the season or they were doing repairs, can’t remember. However it looks kinda scary! You ride an elevator 175 feet down and follow a tour guide over the wooden walkways to the Hurricane Deck which is less than 20 feet from the falls. They also give you a rain poncho for this as well and say you will experience tropical storm like conditions.
View from our hotel room
At night the falls are lit up different colors and it is breathtaking! It was hard to capture in a picture since it was nighttime and I was in my hotel room in Canada!
If you look closely at the picture of the Skylon Tower above you will see a tiny yellow speck at the top, that is the elevator you ride all the way to the top! The elevator is on the outside of the building and has big windows offering an amazing view of the falls. You ride this yellow elevator 775 above the falls in just 52 seconds. I’m surprised that I actually did this, I’m not a big fan of heights, but everyone talked me into it! At the top is an indoor/outdoor observation deck with a view of 8,000 square miles of US and Canada! Also at the Skylon Tower is a revolving restaurant. Sitting at the top of the tower this restaurant circles 360 degrees once an hour. The Skylon also have shopping as well.
While the Falls are obviously enjoyable for adults, I think kids would be fascinated by it as well. There is plenty of neat things for kids as well as adults. A must is a visit to the Hershey Store. You enter through a 4 foot tall Hershey Bar! Here you can sample yummy treats and find unique souvenirs. I bought a candle there that was Chocolate scented and smelled amazing!
Along the Canada side was alot of fun museums, shops, and arcades. We went into Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum, a wax museum, and a few others. We ate at the Rainforest Cafe restaurant. I always love eating there, it’s just a fun place, I mean how often do you eat in a rainstorm? And the food is good too!
My love and I- so long ago
The Falls are just one of those places you must see! It is amazing, beautiful, and breathtaking all in one. We were only there a weekend, but there is so much more you can do there. We also got to go behind the falls on a special tour as well, we went down a tunnel and stood behind the gushing water! I hope that you all plan a trip here one day if you can, you won’t regret it! I look forward to taking my kids someday!
