Featured Movie for the Holidays! Dolphin Tale (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + UltraViolet Digital Copy) Review!

Dolphin Tale Blu-ray Combo

If you didn’t see Dolphin Tale in theaters, I highly recommend buying it! I’ve always been a fan of mushy movies involving animals so I figured I’d like Dolphin Tale, and I did, but not for the reasons I thought.

In an inspirational story of the bond between animals and humans, a boy named Sawyer discovers an injured dolphin, who is brought to a marine hospital and named Winter. Unfortunately, her injuries cost Winter her tail, without which she may not survive. But with Sawyear’s devotion, a marine biologist’s (Harry Connick, Jr.) expertise and the brilliance of a prosthetist (Morgan Freeman) charged with creating a  new tail, Winter may receive a second chance at life.

Dolphin Tale is a wonderful family film. I liked that they didn’t go the predictable route with the secondary story lines. They didn’t go the cheesy route and involve a love story even though they had the opportunity, they focused on the storyline.

Sawyer is an 11 year old boy who is struggling in school, he finds an injured dolphin one day and helps rescue it and formed a bond with her. From then on he checked on her daily. After his cousin is injured in the army Sawyer met the Doctor who worked with prosthetics and convinced him to do the unthinkable and create a tail for Winter. After failed attempts they finally found a solution, and Winter was an inspiration to many people with their own disabilities.

I am known to cry at movies often and this one got me going as well. It was amazing to see the things that were overcome by not only the dolphin, but by others needing prosthetics. It was wonderful that even though it seemed useless, they didn’t give up on Winter. The part of the movie that really got me going was when a mother drove her young daughter 8 hours to see Winter, and the little girl who was missing a leg, saw Winter and said “she’s just like me”. Talk about touching!

At the end of the movie they even showed real life clips of Winter. I didn’t know this until afterwards, but Winter played herself in the movie, which was pretty neat to me. Winter is alive and doing well and people come from all over to see her for inspiration.
