~I received a small promotional item for promoting First Things First. Opinions and stories are my own. Family should always be first and Moon Pies are awesome.~
I realized the other day when I received this promotion that I don’t talk a lot about the difficulties my marriage has gone through. Like many others, over the years we’ve had our fair share of bumps in the road and massive floods that have eroded those same roads away. The one thing that had made the difference for us time and again was our willingness to always try and to do our best to stop arguing and start talking. This didn’t happen over night and it didn’t happen without help.
First Things First is sort of a modern digital version of what we had looked into. It not only covers marriage, but relationships, parenting, fathering and other topics that all come from the same element: making your family first. At a time when we are so absorbed into our digital lives, it is increasingly important to examine our focus and make sure we are listening and mentally there with the people we love.
I don’t know how often my husband and I have gotten into arguments over misinterpreting each other. When I watched the video I kind of thought it was funny and it also made me sad. I can’t recall how many times I may have been looking at my phone when my husband was talking to me, or my children and how that inattention could effect my relationships with them. Looking over many of the videos and information I can see what a value First Things First can be for parents and spouses.
There’s always going to be spats, there’s probably always going to be something that distracts me (especially since I’m a blogger!), but throughout everything there will also be the strength of our love for each other and the desire to not give up on us.
Make sure to thank them by “Liking” their Facebook Page and/or @FirstThingsFirst on Twitter!
