~I received the Fishing Camp the game for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions and stories are my own.~
As long as I can remember I have gone fishing with my family. I have great memories of catching big fish and I have memories of going out and catching nothing but of course that is the way fishing can be. I definitely learned a thing or two about being patient while sitting around and watching my fishing pole. I fish a lot with my girls now because I want them to have a love of fishing like I have. So far I have one that loves fishing and one that could easily take a pass on fishing. Either way they both love board games and we can enjoy fishing board game style with Fishing Camp The Game.
The Fishing Camp game is a trivia board game that is fun for newbies and seasoned fishermen. Fishing Camp is designed to grow with the player as it has 4 different levels of questions. Starting at level one the questions are primarily identification of fish and fishing tackle. As the players increase in their knowledge about fishing, they grow into the higher level questions. So no matter what the skill level everyone can play this game together.
You take your boat player piece and it circles around the game board by the roll of the die. If you land on a question card you answer a question to keep going. Half of the question cards have a fish and weight on them. If you answer one of those correct you keep the fish card. You use the decoder to find the correct answers. If you are playing with a few non-readers this is great because the one reading the card won’t accidentally see the correct answer.
If a player lands on a space that says go to shore lunch island you move your game piece to the correct spot and you read off a fun fact for the entire group to hear. The first person to arrive back at the docks with a fish is declared the winner. We always keep playing for 2nd place to continue the game.
This game is actually a ton of fun and all 4 of us really get into it. My husband and oldest daughter especially love trivia games and I like that they can enjoy a trivia game together. For those that might like a little more action than actual fishing this is the perfect compromise and a great addition to any family game night.
