~I received the new Fromagerie Guilloteau cheeses for review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
Nothing makes an afternoon sweeter than picnicking in the sunshine. I love the lingering scent of honeysuckle in the breeze, the sound of children playing in the background and the rich taste of summer ripe fruits and cheese. I could honestly live in a moment like that forever.
Fromagerie Guilloteau sent over a few of their new cheeses, Saint Angel and it’s sister cheese, Saint Géric. Both are rich triple cream brie-like cheeses, one with sublime streaks of blue that is much lighter than the pungent blue cheeses I’m used to. I ice-packed a small cooler to bring them with us to the park with crackers and fruits (both fresh and dried) and only regretted I couldn’t bring along wine. Perfect for a date afternoon, but not exactly a good pairing for a mom and son picnic.
Judah loved the Saint Angel cheese, but my absolute favorite was the blue. The ultra-filtration method they use to retain all the nutrients of the milk in the cheese makes it delightfully creamy. The streaks of blue in Saint Géric offer a texture that goes well with crackers, but it’s suggested to try a raisin walnut bread or grilled slice of whole grain with heirloom tomatoes, but I keep imagining what it would taste like on a butter burger!
Both of these cheeses, as well as the many others offered by Fromagerie Guilloteau, can be found at Whole Foods and specialty cheese shops. There are also a number of online shops that offer it as well! I hope it makes your picnic or summer get together just as wonderful.
