~I will be receiving a Green ABC’s kit for an upcoming review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
I know most people try to do what they can in making their purchases eco-friendly or sustainable, but it isn’t typically something that I believe many attribute to school supplies. I tend to just pick up whatever is on the list and although I would choose recycled paper over the alternative, I never thought that these choices were available for mostly ALL school supplies. Take scissors for example, I had no idea there were eco-friendly scissors! That’s until I was introduced to Green ABC’s, a company devoted to bringing a green revolution to the school system.
Green ABC’s came up with the unique idea of creating kits with all the items from recycled materials and renewable resources for students and teachers for the year. Instead of having to go out and find the items yourself (which may be quite difficult), you can order the entire year’s worth of supplies and have them delivered to you. This not only works out great for teachers and students in public school, but also homeschooling families! The Kits are separated into:
- Elementary (PreK – 2nd Grade)
- Middle School (3rd Grade – 5th Grade)
- High School (6th Grade -12th Grade)
Each of these have the Classroom, Student or Teacher options and you can also create your own Customized Kit which gives you the option to add on items like a backpack or messenger bag.
I had received an Elementary Kit for review with Tot and was floored when it arrived. I honestly had no idea that many of these items had green options. The kit included everything he would need on his school supply list and much more; which allowed me to have extras at home for homework, lessons and crafts. All of the items in the box are made from recycled materials and renewable resources with innovations in biodegradability. So for teachers and parents it isn’t just a box of tools, but also a lesson for children!
The most important aspect of it is that we are doing our part and leading by example. I can only imagine how much paper, glue and pencils get used every year by schools and the difference it would make if those items were made by green alternatives. The difference is not in the quality of the products, it is in the quality of the environment we leave for the next generation. Schools are there to educate the growing minds of our world and there is no better place to make a difference.
When you go to purchase your child’s school supplies, consider this green alternative. And the next time you are at a parent/teacher meeting, introduce your child’s teacher to Green ABC’s. If you are able, why not pick up a box for your child’s class to get them started? Teachers need all the help they can get with supplies and you can be the difference in the standard.
I’m really proud to have the opportunity to share this incredible company and their initiative on my blog. Please take a moment and make yourself familiar with them by visiting their store, “Liking” them on Facebook and/or @Green_ABCs on Twitter. Help spread the word!
