The holidays are a time to enjoy the simple pleasures in life and honestly for many of us, a last chance to indulge in delicious treats before committing to New Year’s resolutions. This year, I had the opportunity to indulge in some amazing chocolates by Guylian.
Guylian Artisanal Belgian Chocolates provide the ultimate experience for chocolate lovers. Each luxurious chocolate seashell is marbled with 100% pure, silky smooth milk, dark or white Belgian chocolate. Our irresistible seashell chocolates are filled with a rich, decadent, and luxuriously creamy chocolate truffle; the original handmade recipe of Guy & Liliane. Our signature truffle recipe is still made in small-batch copper kettles exclusively by Guylian’s Master Chocolatiers in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium.
Guylian sent me a wonderful selection of chocolates to try and thankfully there was plenty to share. Since I love truffles, the first thing I tried was the Belgian Chocolate Truffles which are described above. I have to say the beautiful swirled chocolates not only melted in my mouth, but I loved the hint of hazelnut in the truffle portion of the chocolate. It was suggested to savor these chocolates, but it was difficult to not just gobble them up.
Since I am not a fan of dark chocolate, I decide to open the box of Extra Dark Belgian Chocolates to help curb my impulse to eat more. Unfortunately, the extra dark chocolates weren’t as bitter as I would expect. The combination of fine dark chocolate shell with the unique filling, balances out any overbearing bitterness and I almost liked the extra dark better the other ones. I enjoyed that they weren’t as creamy as the swirled ones and they were easier to savor since they didn’t seem to melt as quickly in my mouth.
Another thing I must note about the chocolates is that they are gorgeous. The chocolates are sculpted into delicate seashell and seahorse shapes and as you can see below, they are perfect for setting out to share with guests. I could just see these luxurious chocolate truffles set out with champagne for New Year’s Eve parties. As I said before, they would make the perfect last moment indulgence before those resolutions start.
My family also was able to sample the No Sugar Added Chocolate bars. These bars are made with Maltitol instead of sugar. So for those of you starting a new diet, you could always set aside these bars for that little slip that is bound to happen. I thought the milk chocolate one was delicious of course, but the dark bar was a bit bitter for me. My hubby, who loves dark chocolate, said that it was some of the best dark chocolate he has ever had.
The story behind Guylian is so refreshingly romantic that I had to know more about this company. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that every time you buy a box of Guylian Belgian Chocolates, you are supporting Project Seahorse. So every time you indulge in the decadent sea horse shaped chocolates, you can feel good knowing that you are also helping Project Seahorse.
