We can’t forget about the great Christmas Classics from Hanna-Barbera! This production company ran American animation on television for decades! Some of the best classic cartoons came from Hanna-Barbera, shows like the Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby Doo and The Smurfs to name a few; later they went on to make The Powerpuff Girls and Johnny Bravo! Now Warner Bros is releasing three of their Christmas Classics in an amazing Collection for the season! Here is a little information about each one:
The Town That Santa Forgot
Produced in 1993, this classic was narrated by Dick Van Dyke! It used to run during Christmas programs on Cartoon Network and currently airs on Boomerang (a channel that specializes in Time Warner reruns). This special is a story within a story. A grandfather who finds that his grandchildren seem to only care about what Santa will bring them on Christmas, decides to tell them a story about a boy who was very greedy and threw tantrums every time he didn’t get what he wanted. After an especially huge tantrum, his parents decide that he would get nothing else from them, not even on Christmas, so he decides to go get what he wants from Santa Claus. For months the boy writes down every toy he wants until his list is over a mile long, but what he is given on Christmas Morning is something that changes him for the rest of his life. The movie ends with a beautiful surprise that shows the miracle of the Holiday.
A Christmas Story
This classic was released in 1972 and is about a little boy’s Christmas List and it’s journey to Santa Claus. On Christmas Eve a little boy named Timmy listens to his Father read to him the story A Visit From St. Nicholas. Listening to the story is a little mouse named Gumdrop who winds up putting his own tiny stocking next to Timmy’s, but before he goes to bed he happens to find Timmy’s letter to Santa and realizes that it must not have been mailed. Worried that if Santa doesn’t receive Timmy’s letter he will stop believing him him, Gumdrop and the family dog, Goober, go on a remarkable journey to deliver it. An adorable story about how even the tiniest of hearts can make the biggest dreams come true.
In 1979, Casper’s First Christmas aired on NBC. Featuring Casper the Friendly Ghost and his friend Hairy Scary, the story begins with the two ghost friends looking for a new house on Christmas Eve since the one they are living in is about to be demolished. However, Yogi (yep Yogi the Bear!) and his Friends stumble upon Casper and Hairy’s house by accident and decide to decorate it for Christmas. Upon returning, Casper winds up befriending Yogi and his friends, but Hairy decides to ruin all their Christmas fun.
This is the first animation where Hanna-Barbera merges characters.
