It’s that time of the year when we all go out shopping for family meals and gifts. Stores can be a little bit of a hassle this time of year and so it’s always nice to catch a good deal that excuses whatever stress you may have had trying to get through the parking lot. This weekend was my family’s BIG Thanksgiving meal and my home has inherited the holiday’s from my Mom, so I’ve been out shopping a lot! On one of these shopping runs for holiday food, I was going to pick up a certain teenager in my family (::cough::) a new phone.
The reason why this was really important is because the reason we wanted to gift our teen with a new phone on his own plan was to show that we believed him responsible enough to take care of his own things. We wanted to make sure that it was affordable, that it was unlimited (talk, text, web) and that it was a great phone. As a teen he likes to be on the phone constantly. I’m actually pretty sure he is connected to his current phone via the headphones that are implanted in his ear. So it was important that he could afford his own plan. He turned 16 in October and is looking for his very first job! He wanted to show he could take responsibility and my husband and I thought this was the perfect gift to show we trusted him. We, of course, will be handling the monthly service until he gets his first job, but it is actually a lot cheaper than his Talk/Text plan on our service right now!
There was also an Extra’s Pack available that was essentially a pre-paid card for ringtones, games, etc. Since my son is a gamer, I had to sneak that in there. Although it wasn’t essential to my shopping experience, I wanted to make sure his gift fit him and as a teenager he likes all those extra things!
I think my favorite part of the entire shopping trip was that I could walk in there with my Tot and my husband and not have to wait 30min to 1 hour to get service on a phone line. I walked over to the counter, picked up the Samsung GALAXY Exhibit, the Family Mobile Starter Kit and walked right back out! I actually had to go ask the customer service guy if I could really, actually, leave or if I was forgetting anything. It seemed completely impossible that it was so easy to get a phone plan!
So we got the phone and probably made the customer service guy across the counter in Electronics think I was insane for looking oddly dumbstruck by the ease of the experience, and was able to head right back onto shopping for the big family meal! Anything that saves me time is valuable, especially when I have a 5 year old in a busy shopping center days before Thanksgiving and Black Friday!
If you are out shopping for your family meal this week and want to pick up the best wireless plan for your teen or loved one, you should really check out Walmart Family Mobile. It’s all about connecting families and staying connected to my son as he grows older, especially in these last few years before he turns 18 and decides to escape me, is the most important thing to me. I’m sure those of you with teenagers understand the balance between allowing your child to have the freedom and independence they seek and also knowing they’re just a phone call away.
Now all you have to worry about is not over indulging on holiday dinner!
