I was given the chance to review the Honeywell ThermaWave EnergySmart Heater this past February when it was cold. Then all the sudden, in a dramatic twist, March became an early spring and all the allergens we didn’t have to worry about until roughly late April – early May was in an abundance. I felt like I was at war with pollen that literally coated my windows in yellow dust.
Have you ever had an allergy headache? They’re the worst. You go from having this mild headache that kind of feels like a pressure on your forehead, to having to hold your head as it all at once feels like it’s burning and being pressed together in a vice. It’s a horrible feeling. I started having these headaches when everything began it’s early blooming and my poor son, who is also allergy prone, started sneezing and looking bleary eyed; we were both a pair of un-happy campers.
The problem with allergens are that they don’t stay outside where they are supposed to be. I imagine that they invisibly stalk me when I open my front door. It’s not enough that there are typical indoor allergens, like Dust & Mold; we have to contend with those sneaky outdoor ones that scuttle in when we least expect it. To not have to constantly medicate ourselves, we started looking at Allergen Towers and Honeywell was so kind as to offer me the chance to review their Honeywell True HEPA Allergen Remover (HPA-150).
The Honeywell True HEPA Allergen Remover removes Dust, Mold, Bacteria, Odors, Particulates, Pollen and Viruses. It is an Air Purifier, but I’ve also found that it also actually works as a nice fan.
It’s a very unobtrusive Allergen Tower that fits perfectly in any room. Although the maximum coverage area is 170 sq.ft., it removes up to 99.97% of all allergens and is the #1 Recommended Allergen Remover by Allergists! It’s also very light and easily portable. Here are the other details!
- Easy-to-use controls
- 3 air cleaning levels
- Electronic filter replacement reminder
- AHAM Certified CADR Rating: 110 (Smoke)
- AHAM Certified CADR Rating: 125 (Dust)
- AHAM Certified CADR Rating: 130 (Pollen)
- HEPA filters should be replaced once per year with the Honeywell HRF-H1 HEPA Filter; unit requires 2 HEPA filters
- Odor-Reducing Pre-Filter should be replaced every 3 months with the Honeywell HRF-B1 Odor-Reducing Pre-Filter; unit requires only 1 pre-filter
- From the air that passes through the filter, air circulation depends on many factors such as room size and configuration
To remove the filters, you simply push a button at the top and it opens up. Don’t worry, it’s not so easy that a toddler can do it, mine has tried. You pull the filters out and you can change them. These are my filters after 2 weeks in our house in the Midwest (where allergens are running rampant!). So you can see that they are pretty good, strong filters.
The neat thing about the Allergen Tower is that it works by pulling air in one side and then pushing it out the other, effectively creating a fan with fresh air. Since it’s so warm outside, it’s nice to sit in our lounge room on the couch and let the air breeze over; especially since it’s allergen free.
So now regardless of what the pollen count is in my area, I don’t worry so much. I may still get headaches when I go for walks, but I just rest in the room with the tower for awhile and it’s not so bad. Plus, the Honeywell True HEPA Allergen Remover does something else… it removes the incredibly horrid smell of my dog from the room. He has halitosis.
Lars is my husband’s dog and he’s very old. He also is extremely, awfully, stinky. He’s probably the most stinky dog on the planet which doesn’t go well with his obsession with licking everything. I finally got him off this habit except in his bed, so his bed is the stinkiest place in the whole house. I couldn’t sit in this chair for the longest time because I would smell it and ever since I had my youngest, I’m really sensitive to smells.
The PreFilter is an Odor Filter and let me tell you, it is wonderful. I won’t say it takes away all the smell (he’s a very stinky dog), but it pulls in the worst of it and makes it capable for me to sit in this nice chair!
Overall, this is a really wonderful Allergen Remover. It has great reviews on Amazon as well! The only complaint I have ever found about this tower is that someone had said it doesn’t remove all their dust. Well… I have to say, I have a house that loves nothing more than to magically have dust reappear every time I sweep. I didn’t assume when I got the Allergen Remover that it was going to do the dusting for me, but that it would remove most of the dust allergens. There is a big difference. You can never really get rid of dust or dust mites, but you can have a manageable plan by using an Allergen Remover.
The allergy season doesn’t look to be coming to an end any time soon, if you’ve been looking around for an allergen remover, this is a very nice product. I love Honeywell’s designs and their products come highly recommended by Moms and Allergists alike, it’s well worth the cost for sanity and the peace of mind if you have allergy sufferers in your home. And if you aren’t sure about this one, Honeywell provides many other styles of allergen (and even germ fighting!) removers.
It’s worth it. I honestly do not know what I would do without it.
