~I received I am Jim Henson for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions and stories are my own.~
We can all be heroes is the inspiring message of the New York Times bestselling picture book biography series, Ordinary People Change the World, from historian and author Brad Meltzer. This volume is I am Jim Henson, the creator of the Muppets and Sesame Street.
This friendly, fun biography series focuses on the traits that made our heroes great–the traits that kids can aspire to in order to live heroically themselves. Jim Henson, for example, was always dreaming up something new, and always expressing his belief in the goodness of people. Henson was a born performer with a terrific sense of humor, and he used those talents to help create two of the most beloved programs in television history: The Muppet Show and Sesame Street. Through his Muppets, Jim showed the world that there’s nothing more beautiful than imagination, especially when it’s accompanied by laughter and kindness.
Each book in this series tells the story of one inspiring individual through lively text and art that works well for the youngest (5-8 years old) nonfiction readers. In the back of the book are an excellent timeline and photos to give a more in depth look at the person. This is a series I have read before and I absolutely ADORE it. In this book you even get information on how Henson got started in puppetry and how he created Kermit. It has information that even I didn’t know and it is told in a such a fun way that kids love to listen to them over and over again. These books hopefully inspire little ones that literally anyway can follow their dreams and be a hero. A fabulous series where even young readers can learn about some amazing people.
