~I received a copy of So Jane for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions and stories are my own.~
Are you a Jane Austen enthusiast or perhaps you consider yourself a “Janeite”? If so then the book So Jane: Crafts and Recipes for an Austen-inspired Life by Hollie Keith will help you bring all things Austen into your home in a contemporary way through decorating, gift giving and entertaining. As a librarian and a lover of classic literature I find this book to be nothing short of gorgeous and inspires me to break out my sewing machine that has been collecting dust for years.
With 30 craft ideas and 30 recipes organized into six chapters bearing the titles of Jane Austen’s novels you can enjoy breakfast in Bath via Northanger Abbey by creating Decorative Egg Cozies to keep their Soft-Boiled Eggs warm; or serve Honey-Lemon Teaspoons and Rose Petal Tea with the Middletons of Sense and Sensibility; enjoy a picnic that Emma would love to have shared with Mr. Knightley; or create an I Heart Mr. Darcy Pillow that all Elizabeth Bennett wannabes would love to cuddle up with.
You can tell just by browsing the book that each craft was perfectly selected to fit in with the Austen theme. The photographs by Susan Barnson Hayward really help set this apart from any others. I enjoy recipe and craft books with photographs of the finished product as well as steps along the way and this book does this to the fullest. I feel like reading through the pages is like enjoying a good book as I want to dive into every page!
Hollie Keith has enjoyed reading classic literature since she was a child and truly has had a passion for crafting beautiful things. She has worked as an editor for more than ten years and is editor-in-chief of LittleMissMarmalade which is a blog dedicated to crafts, DIY, and surface pattern design. This book is one of those to be treasured for sure and with the detailed step by step instructions I know that even I will be able to make such beautiful creations for my own Austen-inspired parties.
