~I received a Key Ingredient Recipe Reader from Key Ingredients in exchange for this post. Opinions and stories are my own.~
I bake when I’m happy. I bake when I’m sad, stressed, anxious, excited, and so on. There’s just something about digging my hands into a fresh dough, or inhaling the sweet aroma of vanilla that brings me to the brink of fond memories or adds on to whatever has happened that day. The only problem is, I’m the kind of girl that likes to try out new recipes constantly and all though I have my tried and true, hand-me-down recipes I take out often, I can never seem to memorize them. I’ve tried to use my paper cookbooks, but the pages are now stuck together with dough or other spilled ingredients. Laminated cards get lost in the shuffle and I don’t trust myself to cook around my grandmother’s hand written recipes. And now, I won’t have to worry about that at all with the Key Ingredient Recipe Reader!
The Key Ingredient Recipe Reader brings all the joys of your favorite cookbook along with the functionality of a tablet. Designed with an at-home chef in mind, the reader is spill and splatter-resistant, just wipe off with a slightly damp cloth, and is shaped to sit on your counter top at an angle, to make reading your recipe breeze.
The reader is the perfect size for my small kitchen and doesn’t take up too much counter space when I’m cooking. The screen is large enough for me to read and follow the recipe direction without needing to stop and squint to figure out the next step. You can also charge the reader, then move it around the kitchen wherever is most convenient, without having to worry about a bulky charger taking up room.
It’s also nice that you can access upwards to 4,000 recipes at the touch of a finger and even add your own recipes to the device with the options to share them the world over! You in case they are family secrets, keep them under lock and key. As a sort of recipe blogger, I’m bananas about the idea of how easy it would be to share a new recipe with thousands of other cooks and bakers! When someone logs onto Key Ingredients website (which is free) users can search, download and “cookmark” their favorite recipes. When you sync your reader to the website, these recipes can be found in your digital cookbook. No need to print off copy or race back and forth from your computer to the kitchen!
Other great features include three different timers, an easy to use Conversion Calculator and a substitute feature to help in a pinch when you suddenly find yourself knee-deep in a recipe or you want to accommodate an allergy or dietary restriction. Plus, it also has a section for planning out meals a week in advance! It’s like the perfect counter top sous chef, if it could just dice up the onions for me, I’d be all set!
My son’s birthday was a couple of weeks ago, so I used the reader for the first time then. He loves vanilla cupcake, so I did a search for them and found within seconds a relatively easy yet delicious looking one and just added my own flair. Okay food dye, for a fun birthday design! That’s the beautiful thing with recipes, you can tweak them here and there, but still be true to the underlying idea! And to make it even easier and because it was such a big hit, this recipe is now saved to my cookbook! I’m not sure how I’m ever going to be able to cook or bake without the Key Ingredient Recipe Reader again!
