The countdown of the holiday season has begun! I know many of us don’t start getting into the heavy shopping, decorating and celebrating until after Thanksgiving (like me), but there are a few holiday plans you might consider starting sooner rather than later.
First, putting your big (or small) items on Layaway. Since most Layaway contracts are eight weeks long, right now would be the ideal time to shop pay over time. Instead of putting your wallet in shock as soon as Thanksgiving dinner is over, you can take a heed of a few of these “Layaway Lessons”:
- Maybe last year’s Christmas tree was on its last limb and this is the year you need a new one. Or you are like us and decided that sweeping up Pine Needles on 4th of July from the Christmas before was getting a little out of hand and couldn’t figure out how in the world all the lights from the tree turned into a giant knot incapable of unraveling. Either way, you need a new holiday center. You can pick up a pre-lit tree (this is what we did!), LED lights included, wreaths or a Christmas train (which we are getting) now and pay them off in time for decking those halls!
- Your gift list could rival Santa’s Naughty & Nice List. If this is the case, long gift lists call for Layaway. You can fill your cart to the brim and roll it over to the Layaway counter.
- Money is tight this year. It’s not just you; sadly it is most everyone out shopping this season. If you’re having trouble staying afloat while keeping those bills paid, Layaway is a must. Not only will you avoid ‘wallet shock,’ it makes you feel better knowing you don’t have to sacrifice gifts just to pay the rent on time.
Whether you have one or 100 items , you can Layaway almost everything on your list without paying a service fee through 11/23. Plus, you can pay in store, online or using a mobile phone. Eight or 12 weeks later (depending on your contract) pick up your items and you’re good to go.
After you figure out how easy it is, you can Layaway all year round at Kmart. (Think birthdays!) For more information, you can follow along at #KmartLayaway on Twitter and/or @Kmart.
