Most of you know what imgur is. It’s the Simple Image Sharer otherwise known in some places at the picture blog, popularized by Reddit. Well it came to my attention tonight, via a post my husband shared with me on Reddit, that imgur is in serious need of Facebook Likes.
The creator of imgur went on Reddit and was talking about how no matter their popularity, businesses are only concerned with Facebook Likes. We get this a LOT in the Blogging world, which is really why some Bloggers go so far as turning to the darkside and buying social media users for their Facebooks and Twitter Accounts. Which is not something I condone at all, but is the underlying reason. Companies are turning a blind eye to a lot of great blogs, their content and traffic and only caring about a ridiculous amount of Facebook Likes. Unfortunately, with Facebook’s new layout and their sneaky ways of trying to get us to pay to have our readers see our posts, most of us have had issues with our Likes.
imgur is a fantastic site! Their statistics are beyond phenomenal, just look at these! They’re my dream Stats!
Site stats in the past 30 days according to Google Analytics:
Unique Visitors: 45,046,495
Pages / Visit: 11.25
Avg. Visit Duration: 00:11:14
Bounce Rate: 35.31%%
New Visits: 17.05%
Can you imagine 2 BILLION Page Views a MONTH? Neither can I. Unbelievable.
For some reason Facebook likes matter to people. With all of our pageviews and unique visitors, we only have 35k “likes”, and people don’t take Imgur seriously because of it. It’s ridiculous, but that’s the world we live in now. I hate shoving likes down people’s throats, so Imgur will remain very non-obtrusive with stuff like this, even if it hurts us a little. However, it would be pretty awesome if you could help: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Imgur/67691197470
So I wanted to help spread the word. This is a great site, a wonderful and simple tool that has helped many people start conversations, debates, talk and really interact with each other. Let’s help imgur with their Facebook Likes so that they can compete in the Social Media world with the rest of us who do not have 2 BILLION Page Views. You can read the whole story here from the creator himself.
Let’s do a good thing!
