I’ve been trying to start healthier habits and my sweet brother has been trying to make me a tea drinker for quite some time now. On one of his recent visits he brought some dried mint leaves from my step mom’s garden and brewed some tea. I must say I loved it. It made me also realize that it’s not that I don’t like tea, I’ve just been drinking teas that I don’t like. I want that subtle, sweet taste that gives you that warm tummy feeling. I typically don’t drink hot beverages, especially in a mug, since little hands in my home always seem to be able to find unattended items. So, hot tea seemed impractical to me unless I wanted a cup at the end of the day. Then, I came across Libre Tea…
dedicated to inspiring tea moments – a time to connect with ourselves and the world in the midst of a busy day …loose leaf tea on the go… a tea moment anywhere, anytime.
My brother (thank you) has opened my eyes to the possibilities of what I can do with hot water, but Libre Tea makes it convenient to do so safely. I received the Libre glass ’n poly Large and I love it. This Libre tea glass can hold 14 ounces (420 mL). The glass ’n poly design incorporates a glass interior with a durable polycarbonate exterior. This means I can have the clean, non toxic benefits of drinking from glass without the risk of it shattering the first time I bump it on the counter…which I do often. The tea filter is made from stainless steel and the plastic portions are a BPA free polypropylene. The double-wall design also helps minimize heat transfer (hot or cold). I was very surprised when I put boiling hot water in the tea glass and the outside was still cool to the touch. It actually was so well insulated that I ended up waiting awhile for it to cool down enough to drink it. The next cup I brewed, I just added hot water instead.
The coolest feature is the stainless steel tea filter I mentioned above. This filter allows you to brew loose leaf tea and other things you might be tempted to try without being tied to your teapot at home. Plus, there are two ways to brew, inside the tea glass or within the filter (so you can easily remove contents to stop steeping).
This “how to video” explains the two different brewing methods.
Next, I was ready to try the leaves in the glass method. This week I received some chocolate mint in our organic box, so I figured that would work as my test. First of all, the smell was divine and let’s just say mmmmm….I love mint. I have to be honest though my favorite part is how pretty the leaves look in the glass. It just looks refreshing and healthy.
Sometimes I like to have hot water with lemon in it and since I had some fresh lemons, I tested those out too.
See….doesn’t it just look delish? My mind has been going crazy with all the possibilities and combinations I could try.
I also didn’t know about these awesome benefits of loose leaf tea
- More cost-effective than pre-packaged teabags
- Can lower the risk of developing kidney stones
- Can aid in tooth enamel defense
- Better flavor
There are obviously many other health benefits, but I didn’t know about the kidney stones & tooth enamel, so I was extra excited to learn about those.
The Libre tea glass isn’t dishwasher safe, so that could be a downside for some of you. I personally don’t use our dishwasher on a daily basis, so I would end up washing this item by hand anyway. Although I think the glass is sleek and stylish, I would love a splash of color on it. Not anything that would take away from the beauty of the tea, but maybe just a small band of color near the top or bottom. I don’t know why, but I like to have an option of colors to choose from. Of course, there are gorgeous products like flowering tea buds (see below) that make that silly request irrelevant.
I’m very excited to start trying new teas and other hot beverages that I can easily take “on-the-go” or won’t be hot if little hands reach out and touch them. The Libre tea glass would make a great gift for Mother’s day too. How pretty it would be to package the tea glass with some of those gorgeous blooming tea buds! Or for the new graduate to take with them to their new job…hopefully. Besides, all the loved ones in you life deserve a quiet tea moment and now it can be anywhere, anytime.
You can purchase a Libre Glass ‘N Poly Tea Glass on their website. (3 different sizes!)
