~Review made possible by Little Pim~
Big Sis is turning 5 soon and she is currently in her first year of real school, also known as Preschool. Her teacher speaks fluent Spanish, as do several of her classmates, and has been teaching the whole class a few words throughout the day. Big Sis recently came home from school and told us how much she loves learning Spanish and proceeded to share with us what she learned. My husband knows Spanish fairly well, but I was left with my high school Spanish that I have long since forgotten, but since that conversation the opportunity to review Little Pim came up and I thought what perfect timing and it sounded like the perfect DVDs for her!\
Little Pim is the award-winning foreign language-learning program for young children. They recently introduced a special-edition product line now available exclusively at select Toys“R”Us® stores nationwide. The new Spanish, Chinese, and English Discovery Sets each include three DVDs and a Little Pim plush panda toy.
Between birth and the age of six, the human brain is pre-wired for language learning, and Little Pim helps families take advantage of this brief window, by making language learning easy, fun and effective. Their unique Entertainment Immersion Method® provides total immersion in the language. The method engages a child’s love of play watching real kids and animation. Little Pim’s proven repetition technique helps children retain new vocabulary. The program is the brainchild of Julia Pimsleur Levine, the daughter of Dr. Paul Pimsleur, creator of the Pimsleur Method, the popular language-learning program for adults. She was inspired to create Little Pim based on her own bilingual childhood.
The Spanish DVDs show children doing basic things like drinking water or playing with a ball and then the Spanish word or words are displayed on the screen while the Spanish words are said aloud. These are full immersion DVDs which means the English equivalent is not displayed on the screen or said. It is completely in the language you have chosen. At first I was unsure about the lack of English being used but Big Sis quickly picked up on it and she quietly watches the DVDs while saying the words out loud with the narrator. She could care less that English isn’t spoken!
Each of the DVDs are 35 minutes and are placed in 5 minute episodes one on top of the other. For each DVD kids can learn 60 words and phrases. You can always turn on the subtitles if you like.
Little Pim is available in 11 languages including:
I find it so exciting every time Big Sis says words in Spanish hours or even days after she has last watched the DVDs. She really is at the perfect age to soak up all the information around her. It makes me wish I knew another language! Since I am older it is a lot harder for me to learn but I still enjoy watching the movies with her and maybe I will pick up on a few words and phrases too!
Purchase: You can purchase the Lttle Pim Special Edition Discovery Set from Toys“R”Us® nationwide for $39.95.
