~I received games from Super Duper Inc. to facilitate this review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
This is the first of 3 games/kits that I will be sharing from Super Duper Inc., a company formed on the foundation of creating easy-to-use therapy materials for parents and educators. Considering that most of the staff is highly educated in the field of Communication, Speech and Language it comes as no surprise that the materials are of outstanding quality.
The MagneTalk Match-up Adventures Kit is a language-based magnetic barrier game that teaches children how to follow/give directions, basic concepts, categorization, vocabulary, auditory memory, deductive reasoning and much more. In fact, it is even easy to come up with your own lessons outside of the Kits’ 34pg Activity Book and it is just fun for kids and parents to play with together even if you aren’t exactly working on any lesson plans.
I had it out during a playdate with my son and his friend and they had so much fun just sticking the magnets in amusing scenes. The MagneTalk Barrier Game Stand is a 2-sided magnetic, dry erase tabletop easel, the Match-up Adventures Kit includes 10 Game Boards (2 of each scene), so children can play solo, with a parent/teacher or their friend!
Each game board comes with 10 matching magnets. There are numbers on the magnets that match the game board so you won’t have to worry about being confused. Since there are 10 Game Boards and 10 magnets per board, there are 100 magnets in the Adventures Kit. Thankfully the Kit has a bag that holds everything separately!
Now my magnets are mixed up because the kids put them away, but there are separate pockets for each of the magnet sets so they don’t get mixed up!
The game boards include 2 of each of these scenes: Camping, Picnic, Outer Space, Ocean and the Grocery Store. The Activity Book (which also includes a CD ROM) has reproducible activities that you can print out for lessons.
The game board slides into the MagneTalk Barrier Game Stand that serves as the magnet/white board.
You then find the lesson you want in the activity book and print it out. I am just using the book for the example. You can see that at the bottom it has a place for the child’s name, homework helper and the date. This is great for schools (including home-school) for record keeping.
For this we chose Basic Concepts that go over the difference between In and Out and In Front and In Back. I would ask Judah to place the magnet on the board where indicated, such as “Place the fish IN the pond.”
Each game board has beautiful and colorful scenery and when all the pieces are on the board it makes for a fun picture! Here I was doing a lesson of my own by asking my son How Many fish there were on the board and to circle them. The MagneTalk Game Barrier AND the Game Boards are also Dry Erase and the Kit comes with its own Dry Erase Marker!
When lessons are finished, the entire Kit can be folded down, organized and stored in a carry case that allows you to take it anywhere you want to go! First you place the Match-up Adventures Kit pieces into it’s bag and then it and the Game Barrier slide into the case. Viola!
When the MagneTalk Match-up Adventures Kit arrived at the house my tot was ecstatic. He kept bouncing around saying it was just like school! Little did I know when choosing this game for review that it was actually used in his lesson plans at school! I knew right then that Super Duper Inc. was an amazing resource for parents because it was the exact same resources that were being utilized by school therapists. Your child doesn’t have to have delays or disorders in order to use the tools, games and activities from Super Duper Inc., all children love to learn in fun and engaging ways with their families and peers!
I am actually considering loaning this off to his class for the school year because I think all the kids would love to play and learn with it. It is such an incredible parent/teacher assistant for helping kids, especially those with language delays like my tot.
I have a few other games to show you over the coming weeks, Ask & Answer® “Wh” Bingo that teaches children What, When, Why, Where and Pirate Talk®, a receptive and expressive language game! Until then, you can check out the many, many games on Super Duper Inc., find your favorite!
