~I received tickets to Medieval Times for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions and stories are my own.~
Orlando is an amazing place to visit (which most people know), but living here in Orlando I try to enjoy everything there is to do too; even if it is “touristy” because I enjoy doing all those fun things too! Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament Show is one of those things that people might not think to go to when they visit Orlando, but I am here to tell you it is definitely something to consider. It has everything: adventure, excitement and yummy food!
I went to Medieval Times once as a child with my parents and brother, another time with my husband back when we were dating over 10 years ago and now just a few days ago as an adult in my thirties. I decided I needed a date night without the kids and a dinner show is exactly what I had in mind. We went with another couple that we are close friends with. These kind of shows are definitely more fun with friends!
After getting your tickets at the booth you are given a colored card that indicates what knight you will be rooting for. Our champion was the Green Knight. Before we went inside we decided to visit the Medieval village that is right outside the castle. It is a walking tour where you guide yourselves and you can learn more about the way of life back then. My husband and I always enjoy historical things like that. It is complete with cloth making, a blacksmith shop and Medieval torture devices (which some parents may want to be aware of if you are taking small children). I find it incredible that people actually used such devices!
After spending about 30 minutes going through the village we headed on over to the main castle to wait in the lobby. After a brief photo opp with our entire party with the king we headed inside. There we found a bar full of alcoholic beverages and a gift shop. Drinks are also available during the show but it’s best to look at the drink menu when you have the chance to look at all the tasty choices and aren’t busy cheering for your Knight. We all enjoyed the Dragon Slayer but you can also pre-purchase a bottle of wine for during the show.
We even got to meet one of the stars of the show, a falcon, and his handler.
The King greeted us on the balcony in the lobby to let us know the tournament was about to begin. We were directed to our seats based on our color so that you we were seated in the Green section. After being seated, the King rode out on his horse to let us know it was time for the show. What a show it was!
The food course is served without any silverware of course since there was none in the Medieval period. It was actually fun to eat our food using only our fingers!
You get a banner to wave to help support your knight. Of course you are also welcome to purchase much nicer ones from one of the people selling fun souvenirs in the stands.
Usually the food at these dinner shows is nothing to write a blog about, but honestly the chicken I had was spectacular. If I only could get half a chicken to come out perfectly cooked with crispy skin at home. The rib was also very tender. During each of the courses different events were going on in the show. Skills displays involving the knights riding on their horses, jousting and of course no tournament is complete without sword fights. For special events you can upgrade your experience which includes photos and cake. They make your evening special by announcing all the lords and ladies who are celebrating special events like anniversaries and birthdays.
At the end of the show everyone is directed back to the lobby where we got to meet the King and Queen up close and personal complete with photos. It’s good to be the king.
Overall we had a very awesome time. I was cheering on the Green Knight so loud that my throat was sore the next day. It was the perfect date night where we could just sit back and enjoy a fun meal with a sense of adventure thrown in. I do know for certain that I would not have enjoyed living in the Medieval time period because I just love my technology too much. After showing my girls all my photos from the night they said they want to go so now I will head back for a family visit to Medieval Times next time!
