An item I find essential for cloth diapering is a good wet bag and honestly, I’m not positive why I didn’t think a wet bag was essential for everyday use regardless of whether you cloth diaper or not. I now have several wet bags that we use for a variety of purposes and I find myself needing more as I start packing items for upcoming travel.
A wet bag is a waterproof bag that can be used for several different uses such as
- Cloth diaper/cloth wipes storage
- Dirty clothes/bibs/burp cloths
- Gym clothes
- Reusable snack bags
I received a large wet bag from Monkey Foot Designs in the Blue Mona Luna Birds fabric, which I absolutely adore. I had intended on using this bag solely for cloth diapering, but as my daughter has been sick, we were also able to test this bag for its ability to hold in smells from vomit covered clothing as well. This was a use I hadn’t thought of previously and as it was traumatizing enough to have my poor little girl throw up, I was thankful we could get her cleaned up and not have a smelly car ride home.
So, I know for sure it can hold in smells, but it also didn’t leak when we used it for dirty diaper storage during our outings. I have to contribute this to the awesome Pro Care lining, which is not only waterproof, but also non-toxic, non allergenic, anti-microbial, and fire retardant. If you have used other wet bags with a PUL lining, the thickness of this liner will definitely be the first thing you notice. I actually thought the thickness and stiffness would make it bulkier when I put it in my diaper bag, but it folded up just as compact as other wet bags I have.
This wet bag is very well made and I didn’t see any dropped stitches. In fact, not only are the inner and outer layers sewn separately to avoid wicking, but all the seams are serged for reinforcement too. The seams of the liner are also permanently sealed using a non-chemical method, so you definitely have maximum protection against leaks and odors. I also love that it has a strap that snaps closed, so you can not only hang it over a door knob, but easily attach it to your stroller if you need to. It also has a zipper closure with a long zipper pull, which makes it easy to open with one hand.
To keep things simple…which we all love…you can throw your wet bag in with your diapers or regular laundry, but it isn’t recommended to wash in hot water. You can also machine dry on low if you don’t have time to hang dry.
Now, I know you all have come to value my opinion…but just in case, you can check out here that NASA’s astronauts are using the Monkey Foot Designs wet bags. If that’s not enough proof on the quality of these bags, I’m not sure what more I could say to convince you that these affordable bags are top of the line. It’s amazing that Kristen, a stay-at-home mom of 3, still sews these products herself.
As I mentioned above, these wet bags have a variety of different uses and thus come in many sizes from xs to xl. I can’t wait to order some small wet bags, which will be perfect for a travel toiletry bag or a cosmetic bag for upcoming travel. These bags would also make perfect gifts, from something simple like filling a small bag with homemade soaps to tucking a gym membership into a large wet bag.
