Bath time can be a challenging time with a newborn and also later with a toddler. As a first time mom, I was very nervous when first bathing my newborn and it always seemed like I didn’t have enough hands to clean my little one and make sure they didn’t wiggle out of their itty bitty tub. Now, my little girl wants to help me with everything…including bathing her. After some trial and error, a product that I have come to believe to be an essential item for any parent for bath time is the little washies made by My Bella Baby.
My Bella Baby was started by the sweet momma, Kayla. My first set of washies, I actually won and even though I wasn’t a paying customer, she helped me search through countless bird fabrics as I tried to decide what I wanted. I ended up falling in love with a pair of washies she put up her shop and even though I feel like I wasted her time as I didn’t end up picking any of the fabrics we had looked at, she was still super nice and very prompt on fulfilling my giveaway win. When I became pregnant again, I knew I needed another set of washies for my next little one and I once again asked Kayla to help me find a fabric that would complement my other washies, yet be different enough that my next daughter truly has her own set. Once I found a fabric she promptly ordered it and I had my custom made washies within a couple weeks.
One of the reasons I feel like this item is a must have, is for safety when bathing a newborn. As you probably have discovered…babies are slippery when wet and the little washcloths for babies tend to bunch up as you wipe your little ones skin. The washies have a little strap to insert your hand into, so you can easily hold your baby while washing their little arms. The washies are a 3” circle and don’t bunch up, so they truly can work wonders on cradle cap.
Later on, your child will start to want to do things themselves, which includes bathing. My daughter gets a washie and I have another so she can “help” wash off all the dirt she seems to get everywhere. It is great that the strap can fit over my hand, but still be secure enough for my little girl to use too.
The little washies are made out of 100% cotton on one side and soft minky fabric, terry cloth, bamboo terry, or chenille on the other with a layer in between for absorbency/thickness. My first set had a minky backing and the other set had the terry. I actually like the softness of the minky fabric better, but I think the terry will be more useful against cradle cap for the new baby. You can also flip the strap and use the cotton side if you wish. The washies are easy to care for since you can just throw them in with your normal laundry. I have washed my first set several times and the fabric still looks new. The sewing is also impeccable and I haven’t had any issues with dropped stitches or unraveling.
The washies come in a set of 5 and arrives tied with a ribbon and packaged in a small bag. This makes the set perfect for a baby shower gift. While you’re deciding on the perfect washies, don’t forget to check out her other adorable items like the crib shoes below.
