~I received access to view Angel’s Sing for review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
One of the new feature Holiday films out this season is Angel’s Sing with an all star cast that includes: Harry Connick Jr., Connie Britton, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson! This movie really stood out to me when (during an Q&A session) Stephanie Prange, Home Media Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, had mentioned it as the film that could be the new Holiday classic this year. I was excited to have the opportunity to watch the film and share it with you!
Angel’s Sing follows the story of Michael Walker (Harry Connick Jr.) and his family. In his childhood a tragic accident had occurred that ruined his love of Christmas and every holiday since he had no desire to celebrate it, nor have anything to do with what he considered a frivolous holiday. Although his wife (Connie Britton) and his parents (Kris Kristofferson and Fionnula Flanagan) try to encourage him, he just shuts himself away. Then just before Christmas his son (Chandler Canterbury) faces his own tragedy and Michael Walker realizes through the situation and his son’s guilt, that he must make amends with his past.
The story behind the film is really touching. It has its very sad moments that remind you of days that may have once been special in your life, but that you allowed your past to cloud over. Although there were some spots where I thought the script could have done a little better, overall it was a really great Holiday family film. I love Connie Britton, she’s one of my favorite actresses and both her and Harry Connick Jr. really made the family come to life.
Another thing that makes this film really special is all the music! It’s located in Austin, which is the “Live Music Capital of the World” as their motto goes. There is a lot of great musicians that spotlight in the film and it really shows the heart of Austin, TX and how music is deeply ingrained in the Holidays and what make them so magical.
Angel’s Sing is currently playing in theaters in select locations! You can find out if it is playing near you by visiting Angel’s Sing. If you can’t make it to the theater, you can also watch it On Demand!
