First of all, I am a big fan of the Sunday Arts series. For those of you that are not local to St. Louis, Channel 9 (The Nine Network) features local and national artists on Sundays in a half hour magazine series that represents a collaboration of 30 PBS Stations across the country! The Sunday Arts shares the best arts section of their individual programs. This means, that even if you are not local that you can still enjoy watching the local and national artist segments!
My favorite part about The Sunday Arts is that it shares a unique blend of artists and promotes shops in our communities. This Sunday our Nine Network segment will be featuring I Scream Cakes, a local St. Louis bakery in Cherokee Street Neighborhood. I Scream Cakes was founded by a former tattoo artist turned baker who turns ice cream and cakes into forms of art!
Every cake is made from scratch with all natural flavors, organic eggs, milk, sugar and butter! You can take a look at their gallery. I love how happy all the kids look with their crazy cakes!
Additional features that will be shown in other segments on the Sunday Arts are:
- The photographer Petronella Ytsma whose work illuminates the long-term effects of Agent Orange and dioxin on American veterans who were exposed during the Vietnam War.
- The celebration of Apollo Theatre’s 80th anniversary and its role in American culture and African-American artistry.
- A young woman who transitioned from jump-rope champion to Cirque du Soleil performer.
These presentations will be featured on Sunday, September 1st at 1:00PM CST. You can check out other Sunday Arts series via the Nine Network page or on the Youtube Channel.
For those of you that have Roku’s, you can easily watch the Sunday Arts (and Living St. Louis if you are local) by adding the PBS Channel. It will automatically set for your local Channel 9.
