The last couple weeks have been pretty difficult. My son was very sick and the multiple late nights and super early mornings without rest to make sure my husband could get enough to work on have dragged me down. Running from one doctor to the next doctor, cleaning up sick on the floor and a number of things. I was worn out and ready for some quiet time; all I wanted was a hot coffee, some good lotion to ease my aching feet and a classic chick flick to lose myself in. I’m a simple person.
The winter really dries my skin out. I honestly wonder if I’m shedding from the cold. I’m not the only one either, my tot has very sensitive dry skin and requires lotion every night before bed. So we have to stock up on lotion or we’ll shrivel up. Which is another reason I really love my Sam’s Club Card! They have Club Packs ( 2 16.9oz Bottles) of NIVEA for $8.98! I love NIVEA because it doesn’t leave a greasy feeling after application and is rich in Vitamin E and Almond Oil. There isn’t any heavy perfume, has natural ingredients and also lasts up to 8 hours! We made a trip over to Sam’s Club to pick up my lotion as well as run through the Members Only car wash, you can check out our shopping trip on my Google + Story.
These are two of the most important people in my life. My whole world surrounds around my husband and my two boys. It’s hard when one of us get sick because we all revolve together. Our moments are all unanimous, interconnecting like the sun and the moon; day and night. The moment one of us begins to move off course the rest of us find ourselves stuttering on the axis. When our little one gets sick it isn’t just a physical thing, our hearts ache. There is this deep sense of helplessness when there is nothing more we can do but wait it out.
One of the ways I keep my heart healthy is to spend the moments with my son during his bedtime routine, as we have since the day he was born. I massage the creamy coolness of NIVEA to lock moisture in and wrap him up in the warmth of his pajamas. After he goes to sleep, I curl up with my husband and let go my concerns of the day as he does his. Twining softened fingers, rings to ring.
Though this afternoon was a moment just for me. It’s important for Moms and Dads to have small moments to themselves to keep their own hearts strong. It takes a lot of love and strength to keep a home, no matter if you work outside the home like my husband or stay at home like myself, building the blocks of life takes its toll and having moments of self-soothing is in many ways essential to healthy hearts.
For my “Mom” time, I laid back on the couch and rubbed the NIVEA into tense excessively dry areas. It wasn’t greasy or perfumed, just a natural silky feeling. I love how soft it makes my skin feel, how relaxing it is in even the smaller moments.
It’s easier to get back into the swing of things once you have some downtime. I asked my husband when I was relaxing what made his heart healthy/happy and he always says, “When you are happy”.
Touch is such an important thing for families. The loving touch between a parent and their child, between brothers and sisters or husband’s and wives. A touch doesn’t just communicate by the physical sense, but also emotionally communicates love.
This is the way I keep my heart healthy, though the softness of my hands and the calmness of my spirit. Using NIVEA lotion to create moments, for myself and my son. Reconnecting one moment at a time.
