Paper Scissors Rock – Alarm Clocks Review

Paper Scissors Rock Logo

Paper Scissors Rock clocks and magnets are reproductions of original paintings by Northwest Artist Pamela Corwin and are created in her studio in Olympia, Washington. Pamela works in acrylics and watercolors, sometimes adding elements of collage to her work. She has been in business since 1981 and her work has been featured on several national television shows and in magazines such as House Beautiful, Seventeen and Pacific Northwest. In 1996 she was commissioned to paint an egg for the White House Easter tree and designed the Pike Place Market Festival Poster in 2000. Pamela also teaches local classes on the business of crafts.

Pamela Corwin’s art is beautiful, it appears simple until you look closer and see the particularities. It is radiant and bursting full of a myriad of hues and shadows. The characters have personalities, the smiling and the playful.

Paper Scissors Rock Clock

‘For as long as I can remember I have painted, sketched, and made things out of anything on hand. As a child, I drew on rocks, napkins, my jewelry boxes, and painted on the lamp and clock next to my bed (much to my mother’s dismay, I am sure). Art has always been the way I lose myself, calm myself, it is meditative for me. It comes more from a drive than a desire. I don’t know how not to do it. It’s as much what keeps me alive as food and oxygen’

I was given the chance to review an item from Paper Scissors Rock and I chose one of their Alarm Clocks. I not only loved the artwork, which is very bright and friendly, but what was really special about them is that the art moves. We had picked out the Moon/Star for my son’s room which has it’s walls decorated in stars, spaceships and planets but it wound up in my older sons room to help him wake up for school. On the face of the Alarm Clock is the Moon and the Star is what would be a Second Hand and seems to float around the moon. It was incredibly unique!

The alarm works really well, it sets off a very loud beeping until you push the button down. To turn it on you simply pull it back up. The artwork in detail is hard to capture on my video camera because of the light and reflections, but the image on the website is very accurate.

My toddler loves to watch the star go around and my teen loves it because it’s small and not very easy to find in the dark so he actually has to get UP out of his bed to turn it off. If you have a problem with a teen getting up for their alarm this would certainly do the trick!

Each 2″ square clock has a round face with a print of one of our original designs and a “floating second hand” which is printed on a clear plastic disk, so the image appears to float around the edge of the clock. For example, on the Cat alarm clock the second hand is a tiny mouse, which runs around the face of the clock. On the Dog clock, a tiny bone counts the seconds. Each Alarm Clock comes in a gift box with the battery included.

Paper Scissors Rock also offers Wall Clocks with the same vibrant art, night-lights, greeting cards, magnets and magnetic bookmarks. The Wall Clocks are large versions of the Alarm Clock but they don’t have the floating second hands. The magnets are my second favorite and what I really think would be wonderful little stocking stuffers! You could get little Dinosaurs, Dragonflys or a whole number of them for your little ones to put up their artwork!

Sunflower Clock

If you want a very original gift for the Holiday’s then you need to stop by Paper Scissors Rock, the store has an incredible history, the artist is very passionate about her work – which shows and it is sure to put a smile on any friend or loved ones face. I really think they’re the perfect touch. Once my husband and I pick out colors for our walls I plan to pick out a Wall Clock for our Family Room! Then I’ll have to post more pictures and show you how well it fits in a large room and draws the eye to the center, for now you can look over all the lovely artwork and find your favorite!
