A couple days ago I told you all about my trip to Universal Studios Florida, in case you missed it you can read all about it here. Now I’m going to tell you about the second half of our day. After lunch we headed on over to Islands of Adventure, which is within walking distance. Like the other park, I made a list of “Must See” attractions so we could make the most of our day.
We headed straight to the Cat in the Hat area. This was spectacular! Bright colors all over and plenty for little ones to do! Our first stop was The Cat in the Hat ride, we all loved it! My daughter still says it was her favorite ride and probably mine too, mainly because it was nothing like I expected! I figured it was just a simple children’s ride, no! way better! You hop on a couch and it takes you for a spin through the pages of his books. This ride has your couch spinning in all directions, my daughter laughed the whole time! Did you know Dr. Suess never drew straight lines? It was always curved, slanted, or as he says “wonky”, so his ride has no straight lines either! How fun.
As we got off that ride we noticed Dr. Suess characters nearby so we walked over to say Hi to them. We saw The Lorax, Grinch, Thing 1 and Thing 2, and 2 other’s that I don’t know the names of.
After posing for pictures we headed over to One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. This ride was great, you sit in a fish and control whether you go up or down. It had a catchy song and spraying water and the song told you how to stay dry, my son always did the opposite so we could get wet though!
We left this area for a while to explore the rest of the attractions on my list. We headed over to the Marvel Super Hero Island streets and on the way saw some pretty cool looking motorcycles zip by and park and get off. My son was in heaven, all his favorite superheros! They went in different directions to pose for pictures so we followed behind Spiderman. His line was pretty long and my son didn’t want to wait so we just looked at him and went on our way.
We stopped at Me Ship, Me Olive which was a fun multi level play area inspired by the hit show Popeye! This featured slides, crawl throughs, and even giant cans of spinach! On the top level you could spray water on the rafts that went by from the Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges, which looked awesome! Unfortunately my little ones were too small for this so we passed it up. It is a white-water raft ride where Popeye tries to save Olive. We will hit this next time for sure!
Time was slipping by and we wanted to make sure we did not miss The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! I admit, I am not a Harry Potter fan, nor have I seen a complete Harry Potter movie, but I really wanted to check this out! I have heard too many great things about the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter that I could not pass it up! I have seen bits and pieces of the movie but I was there with 2 Harry Potter fans and both said it was amazing! I thought it was great and I’m not a fan of the movies so even if you are like me, you should still check it out! The details were fantastic, the buildings were snow covered and so realistic that you almost forgot it’s 80+ degrees out.
There are several rides in the World of Harry Potter, we didn’t actually go on any of them because we were crunched for time and this area was super busy! My mom and brother did go on the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride and just loved it! We made sure to grab a Butter Beer and Pumpkin juice before leaving the area though! We all just LOVED the Butter Beer, don’t worry, it’s non-alcoholic, but super yummy!!! The pumpkin juice smelled scrumptious too!
Another one of my favorite movies growing up was Jurassic Park so needless to say I just loved the Jurassic Park area. As soon as you approach the Jurassic Park sign you hear the classic song from the movie and walk into life size dinosaurs and an amazing play area that even adults enjoy! My kids spent quite a long time in there! They have a very awesome looking ride called The Pteranodon Flyers, you climb into your seat which is suspended under a giant Pteranodon and fly through the air getting a prehistoric bird’s eye view of the area. I really wanted to do this with my son but the wait was over an hour so we passed but definitely looked fun! They also had the Jurassic Park River Adventure which my son missed out on by 1 inch on the height so we will save that for next time as well, but you hop aboard a boat looking at dinosaurs until you are knocked off course into restricted areas and run for your life!
It was getting close to closing time and the skies were turning rather dark and thunder started rolling so we were trying to hurry and finish the few things left on our list. Unfortunately the skies opened up and it poured for the rest of the night, so I will just have to tell you about the few rides that we were going to go on and give my opinions of them from what I saw!
My husband and I were going to try The Incredible Hulk Coaster because it looked very thrilling! Unfortunately this was closed due to lightening. Here’s the description of it:
You accelerate from zero to 40 mph in two seconds flat, with the force equal to that of a jet taking off an aircraft carrier. The world turns upside down as you experience a weightless “zero g” roll. Then you feel a surge in power as you pick up speed and a menacing roar fills your ears. All you can do is hang on as you experience the rage, power and fury of the Hulk, smashing through the sky and plummeting down to earth on a high-speed roller coaster rampage of destruction.
So bummed we missed out on that one! Guess it gives me a good excuse to go back next year though! We also had plans to go back to the Cat in the Hat area as there were two more rides there we wanted to get on. Both of those were outdoor as well so they were closed due to the weather also. One was the Caro-Seuss-al a crazy Dr.Suess inspired carousel, and the other was The High in the Sky Suess Trolley Train Ride which looked pretty fun too.
There was still plenty that we could have done but time was running out and the rain was not letting up. Take my word for it though, next time you are in the area – This park is a MUST SEE! Islands of Adventure has several more thrill rides and a very fun looking 3D Spiderman ride. Be sure to check out the amazing stunt and special effects shows Islands of Adventures has to offer as well!
