I do try and help my girls make healthy snack choices but I get it, candy and chips are tasty too. To help them learn about healthy eating I let them both watch the latest DVD from Super Why which is a fun show we all enjoy watching anyway! Lil Sis at only 21 months old and follows her sister’s footsteps, but Big Sis at 4.5 likes to choose out her own snacks (with some guidance from me of course). I like that this particular DVD has episodes to help her learn about healthy eating without me standing over her shoulder pointing out the good stuff. She does like to eat healthy and will often ask me of an item is healthy or not but having some of her favorite cartoon characters showing her the way can only reinforce good decisions. This was the perfect DVD to let her watch since we had just been discussing such topics the last few weeks.
Check out the clip.
Hansel and Gretel: A Healthy Adventure – Red and her friends are having a picnic in the park, but she has no energy to join in the fun. Could it have something to do with her unhealthy snack choices? Super Why and his friends head into the story of Hansel and Gretel to meet the equally tired and grouchy witch. They convince the witch to trade in her gingerbread house for something both delicious and nutritious – and Red learns what kinds of foods will help her go the distance so she can play with her friends for a SUPER long time!
Educational Objectives: To learn which foods taste great while providing long-lasting energy! Young viewers will play interactive alphabet games, practice the magic of spelling, and use healthy eating choices to change the story.
King Eddie Who Loved Spaghetti – It’s dinner time at Whyatt’s house but things are not going well! He’s perplexed when Mom and Dad say that what’s on his plate isn’t healthy. To find out why, the reading superheroes fly into the story King Eddie Who Loved Spaghetti and encounter a wacky king who only wants to eat one thing – spaghetti! As the super readers convince King Eddie taste new foods, Whyatt learns there’s more to dinner than he had originally thought!
Educational Objectives: To learn about healthy eating. Kids will uncover the alphabet, practice the magic of spelling, learn what the word “ripe” means, and use the power to read to change the story.

It is a cute DVD and PBS did a good job of making fun episodes about healthy eating. I have always enjoyed the story of Hansel & Gretel and they made a great story with it. Big Sis is particularly found of the characters’ cute costumes!
