Polly Pocket has come a long way since I was a little girl. I remember the first time they hit stores in 1989, I was nine years old and Polly Pocket was no bigger than my little finger and she lived in a house that was almost like a compact. All the girls loved her though, we carried her around everywhere and made up our own worlds just as the boys were playing with army guys.
Nowadays, Polly Pocket has become a larger version of herself. I should say, a larger more fashionable version of herself. She can actually move her arms and legs, wear different clothes, have friends and even pets! The coolest thing that has advanced about Polly Pocket though is her house. Now she has a house that we all really wish we could visit.
I was really excited to put the house together and watch my nieces and my son play with the Polly Pocket house! I know I just felt someone cringe at the word “son”, by my son actually really likes Polly Pocket. One day we purchased this big box at a garage sale and inside of it was an older version of Polly Pocket, probably one of the early ones where they tried the bigger size. She’s about the size of my finger and wears rubber like clothes. Regardless, he loved that little doll and we kept her with his assortment of rangers, army guys and odd robot toys he picks up in kid meals. Though, secretly I think he just likes Polly because she reminds him of his Mommy… with a little less yellow hair. He calls her friend Kerstie, “the Princess”.
Polly Pocket’s HangOut House comes with it’s own bathtub, toilet (my son’s favorite part), refrigerator, snacks, cups, television, picture frame, chairs, a swing and of course Polly and her cat. To make it all the more amazing, you can get Stick & Play Room Assortments to add on parts to the house! We got the Kitchen with Kerstie, her dog, another table, a cake, stove, chairs and a pie.
Other Assortments you can get are:
- Polly Pocket Patio with Lea
- Polly Pocket Game Room with Polly
Add on’s include:
- Polly Pocket Vanity with Lila
- Polly Pocket Flower Garden with Polly
And if that isn’t enough, there are Limos, Slumber Safari, Hotels, Resorts, Dress Up Dolls and Carpool Cruisers! Your imagination is the only limit.
What’s also really neat about the new and improved Polly Pocket and friends is that all the pieces are put on by suction so that kids can easily pop on and off the pieces to apply where they want them to go; even Polly’s shoes have the suction pieces so that she can actually stand up! Now that’s pretty amazing when you think about it.
We had a lot of fun with Polly Pocket. My son, my nieces and I played a lot with the Hangout House and had a really great afternoon. Their favorite parts were the fact that the stove, fridge and even the toilet open and shut. They find it so fascinating (the toilet) because it’s just not something you normally see in a doll house and they were so excited to find that Polly goes potty just like them.
It’s really cute when you think about it.
