~I received a Prettie Girl for review. Opinions and stories are my own.~
Last Christmas my friend and I were out shopping when she had mused about how difficult it was to get dolls for her daughter. Although there were a few African American dolls, it wasn’t much and nothing that really was true to form. So a few months ago when I was asked to review Prettie Girls I immediately thought of her.
Prettie Girls are designed by Stacey McBride-Irby as a part of the One World Doll Project, an endeavor on part of herself and Trent T. Daniel to make a significant cultural impact on young children through dolls. Prettie Girls are multi-cultural fashion dolls with unique physical attributes and stories that promote positive values.
There are currently 5 Prettie Girls, each with their own stories and bios. Looking at the image above, here are the different girls.
- Alexie from Indianapolis, Indiana
- Lena from Charlotte, North Carolina
- Valencia from Mexico City, Mexico
- Dahlia from New Dehli, India
- Kimani from Accra, Ghanna
I was given the opportunity to take Lena home and along with my friend, gifted it to her daughter. The look on her face and her joyful exclamation of, “She’s so beautiful!” was enough to know that these dolls were something incredibly special.
Lena is “The Wiz Kid” and can do anything she puts her mind to. She’s fun, confident and smart – just like the little beauty she was given to! The Prettie Girls are nicely designed and each come with their own little accessories. Lena comes with a little red purse that matches her shoes and a silver cuff bracelet!
My friend and her daughter loved Lena and all the fun music, downloads, games and videos from the Prettie Girls Club! These Prettie Girls are the perfect gift to inspire, empower and share the love of diversity. I hope to see many more girls added to the Prettie Girls club in the future!
The One World Project also has a Signature Edition Celebrity Line of dolls and they released their first earlier this year, The Cynthia Bailey Doll. This special Prettie Girl features:
- Numbered Certificate of Authenticity with Cynthia Bailey and Stacey McBride-Irby Signatures
- The One World Doll Project Collectors Pin
- Exclusive discounts on Prettie Girls! and One World Products
