Real Kids Shades are not toys or even scaled-down versions of adult shades. Our award-winning designs, intensive product testing, and patented construction ensure our children’s sunglasses offer the best 100% UVA/UVB sun protection available on the market today.
As you may know, I just returned from Florida on a family vacation. One of the first things on my list to pack for myself was sunglasses! I can’t leave my house without them. My eyes are very sensitive to the sunlight and if I don’t have sunglasses on it gives me a headache. I’m actually pretty addicted to sunglasses, my husband teases me because I wear them even when there is no sun. I’m unfortunately not too strict with the kids when it comes to sunglasses, so thankfully, Real Kids Shades has opened my eyes to the importance of children wearing sunglasses. They sent both of my kids some sunglasses and they were very excited to get to pick them out as well.
My grandpa has suffered from eye problems as long as I can remember, he actually has almost no vision in one eye now. He is always reminding me to wear sunglasses and the kids too. Like I said though, I’m always wearing them, but I don’t know why I never thought it was so important for my kids. Here is something I found interesting.
Children’s Sunglasses are not Accessories:
You need to think about sunglasses the same way you think about bicycle helmets. You wouldn’t let your child ride a bike without a protective helmet, right? Don’t let them play outside without protective sunglasses. Period.
UV rays can damage your child’s eyes anytime of the year. While the harmful effects are three times greater in the summer than winter, there’s still a high risk of sustaining serious eye damage in winter months. UV rays can also do a lot of damage on cloudy or overcast days.
Knowing we’d be in Florida for a whole week I knew we’d be in the sun the whole time! We were visiting theme parks, the beach, and the hotel pool so I knew my kids needed some protection for their eyes! Each kid got to pick out their favorite pair. My son instantly liked the Extreme Elements in Blue Flame and my daughter wanted the Toddler Shades Blue Butterfly. I liked both of these because they had the neoprene bands to keep them in place, I thought this would be extremely helpful when we were playing in the ocean. The strap is also helpful for my little 2 year old who likes to touch her glasses all the time and then they fall off and she can’t get them back on, this way they stayed on the whole time.
The nice people at Real Kids Shades actually threw in 2 extra pairs which was great because anyone with little ones know how easy it is to misplace things, this way we always had at least one pair on us!
The quality of the Real Kids Shades were great! They held up wonderfully to my destructive 2 and 5 year old! The glasses we’d buy at the store in the past always were destroyed fairly quick, either the lens popped out, scratched up, or the arms would break off. Our sunglasses from Real Kids Shades still look good as new, which for my house is amazing!
The truth is, wearing cheap toy sunglasses can actually do more harm to a child’s eyes than not wearing anything at all. Shaded lenses without 100% UV-A/UV-B protection will relax pupils, causing them to dilate and let MORE harmful radiation into children’s eyes. What’s more, not all sunglasses with “100% UV” protection labels pass the test.
Knowing what I know now about the sun’s effects on our child’s eyes, I will be sure it is on my list when we head out to play. If I wear them, they should too! Don’t forget, protecting your eyes doesn’t end when summer does!
