~I received Karma Patrol for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions and stories are my own.~
As an extremely busy blogger and mom to two girls that are involved in everything I find that I have very little free time to do anything but shower and sleep. My all time favorite hobby is still reading but that usually means children’s books now a days. When I do get to sit down with a novel and read for myself I am extremely picky in my selections because who knows when I will get that free time again. Karma Patrol by Kate Miller is a book well worth my time as it is refreshingly different and held my interest from the very first page. In this book karma is real and it is Jade’s job to keep karmic levels balanced in her area. She was born with the ability to see people’s karma levels and she tries to keep free will from messing things up. It has murder, mystery, romance and enjoyable characters making this the perfect book to take to the beach or to stay up late and read in bed once the kids are asleep.
As a karmic account enforcer, Jade Bailey makes sure that what goes around comes around. Jade has dedicated her life to Karma Division, and in return she’s expecting her own personal fairytale, complete with her dream job and love at first sight with a tall, dark, and handsome soulmate. After more than a decade of waiting, her destined soulmate still hasn’t turned up, but a stellar annual performance review from the Powers That Be puts Jade at the top of the promotion list. All she has to do is maintain her territory’s karmic balance until the selection process is over. Naturally, a deranged shooter picks the next day to start a rampage that threatens to destroy the balance of Midtown West – and, incidentally, any chance Jade has of earning that long-awaited promotion. Unwilling to give up despite warnings from her boss, who knows the shadowy Destiny Division won’t appreciate Jade’s interference, Jade starts her own investigation. In the next shooting, she nearly becomes a victim herself, but she can’t prove her near-death experience is anything but a coincidence. Detective Luke Jackson, Jade’s unwitting and extremely unwilling soulmate, arrives on the scene to investigate. Instead of falling head over heels in love with her, Luke suspects her of being involved in the murders. If Jade wants her fairytale ending, she’ll have to convince her soulmate she isn’t a killer while trying to catch the real culprit, a task made more difficult and infinitely more dangerous when Jade becomes the killer’s next target.
Kate Miller is a Florida native who began writing fiction at the age of 13. Growing up as a competitive figure skater left Kate with a fervent love for fleece sweaters and Swarovski crystals, and the latter only intensified when she joined her sorority in college. She graduated from the University of Florida and went on to medical school and residency, but remains involved on the UF campus as an advisor for Sigma Kappa. Like all Gators fans, Kate dreams of a world where football season lasts all year.
Kate Miller’s debut novel takes place in a world where people get exactly what they deserve. Well written and fast-paced, this is the perfect book for anyone who’s ever been cut off in traffic and wished for Karma to step in. I absolutely cannot wait to see what happens next in the trilogy! You can get your copy from Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Books A Million.
