~I received a Roaming Reindeer sample for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions and stories are my own.~
I absolutely love Christmas time and all the traditions that go a long with it. It feels almost like magic in the air. I enjoy doing all the little things that make it special for my girls. I never did jump on the bandwagon of an elf and his daily antics. Instead I was super excited to try the new tradition of Roaming Reindeer. This story by Angela Meju is a touching Christmas tale that celebrates teamwork, good manners and the holiday season. The book is centered on Gus and Sam, two of Santa’s reindeers, who decide to help Santa by visiting little girls and boys to report back on who is naughty and nice.
What makes these reindeer so special is when Gus and Sam realize there isn’t time to visit all the children, they call on their friends for hep. The reindeer are sent off in pairs of two and a are assigned a home to visit. Reindeer 1 is in charge of going back to Santa to report naughty children while Reindeer 2 stays to keep watch.
As long as both reindeer are happily on our shelf that means my girls have been good. If Reindeer 1 is missing come morning that means that my girls have not been behaving and he had to go back and report it to Santa. The book fully explains the whole thing with bright and colorful illustrations.
I think it is fun to play up the Santa card this time of year. I like having my girls be on their best behavior and at 6 and 3 they still believe in all that is magical about Santa and Christmas time. This tradition helps keep the magic alive. I hope to make this book and the reindeer an annual family tradition.
