Roku has always believed that anything you want to watch, listen to, and enjoy should simply be there on your TV, whenever you want it. Roku streaming players are renowned for their simplicity, variety of entertainment choices, and exceptional value.
It always amazes me how sometimes small things can have such a large capacity for change. The Roku may look just like a little black box, but inside of it there is the ability to watch anything we want, whenever we want without having to pay large cable/satellite bills. That is a such a huge change for our family, especially during this time of year and upcoming hardships.
We used to pay close to $150 a month for satellite on top of Netflix which we purchased for their Watch Instantly as we have a Blu-ray player that auto streams. The main reason was so that we could keep up with the news and have our son’s favorite channel, BabyFirstTV. Eventually we had to cut back further to drop our bill down, no one had time to watch T.V. in our house and when we did it was to search for a movie, most of it became pointless. Then my husband told me something he’d read about Roku and how it streamed everything: Netflix, Amazon, CNET, Fox News, NBC and hundreds of other channels – even BabyFirstTV. I was given the amazing chance to review Roku and I can honestly say that this is one little black box that would make an incredible gift this year for all of you looking to find ways to save money.
- No PC needed – Roku connects easily to your TV and wireless (Wi-Fi) network at home. Be up and streaming in minutes.
- You can do it – With the simple remote, you choose what you want to watch, and it starts instantly. It’s even more convenient than watching a DVD.
- No extra monthly bills – Access your existing subscriptions like Netflix. Enjoy tons of free movies, shows, and music. Or browse the latest blockbusters available on demand.
- Always getting better – Roku brings you endless entertainment choices, and we’re adding more all the time. So you’ll always find something new to watch, hear and enjoy.
In the morning we watch the News as we always have, also in the evening, and during the day Judah can watch his BabyFirstTV, Sesame Street on either Netflix or Amazon and Cody can find roughly any movie he’d like to see on the multitude of Channels we have (mostly he watches movies on Crackle). We’ve also had a lot of fun watching some old T.V. shows, complete T.V. Shows! That means beginning with Season 1 Episode 1. A few we’ve gotten sucked into are:
- The Wonder Years
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
- My So Called Life
When I was little we couldn’t afford cable and also back then no one was allowed to have the T.V. but our parents, so it’s great to watch shows I’ve always wanted to see! Cody has even gotten sucked into Glee and yes – Amazon also Streams the latest shows, even Cody’s most favorite – The Walking Dead.
If you have Amazon Prime you can watch all these T.V. shows (except the new season of The Walking Dead) for Free! Also TONS of movies. It would be ridiculous for me to even try to explain how many things you can watch on here, but my favorite is the old T.V. Shows and my husband really likes watching the Roku Newscaster which has all the News Networks from CNN to Alajazeera News. It certainly is interesting watching News from an unbiased global perspective.
Other channels available are:
- HBO GO
- Hulu Plus
- And more…
One thing your husband/boyfriend/children or even you might love is you can also play games! YES, play games! Games like Angry Birds and even Pac Man! Which is great for us old school gamers who miss our original fun. There are word games, poker games and even Galaga.. one of the longest running arcade games in History! Which may not appeal to those newer generations, but that’s why there are games like Angry Birds.
This may be, in my opinion, one of the greatest gifts you can give this year to a family. My husband and my toddler are insanely in love with the Roku. Judah goes on and on about Roku Radio (Pandora) and Roku Sesame Street (Amazon’s Sesame Street Learning Shows) and Roku American Pickers (Any show Mommy & Daddy want to watch). It’s saved us hundreds, one day thousands of dollars to switch over. The only thing I regret is not being able to have HBO Go without an HBO Account currently, but that’s just a minor thing in comparison. One of the greatest things Roku has allowed me is the chance to sit with my son Cody and watch shows like The Wonder Years and enjoy them together, laugh and pick on each other. That’s well worth the price of this little black box.
Purchase: Roku starts at $49.99! You can also find them in your local Walmart and Target. So if you still need to get a gift for someone and aren’t sure what to buy, you can pick it up even last minute!
