~I received the most amazing Spoonful of Comfort package to facilitate this review. Opinions and stories are 100% my own.~
We all have someone that we love that lives far away that in times of crisis or sickness we wish we could be there. My grandmother is at that age where she’s getting more frail and I can’t see her all the time. My best friend and sister lives 2000 miles away from me and I always feel helpless when she’s sad and I can’t hug her. We all feel this in one way or another with our loved ones.
Back in 2007 the owner of Spoonful of Comfort realized this in a painful way when she received a phone call that her mother had cancer. Living so far away from her and unable to visit, she felt she wanted to do something special to comfort her just as her mother had done when she little: with Chicken Soup. Although nearby friends and family were able to be there for her mom, six weeks later she had lost her and was never able to give her the homemade chicken soup she wanted so badly to send.
In honor of her mother, she created a way for other families to send their loved ones the comfort of home. Whether it is a child away, a parent, grandparent, sibling or friend, you can give a gift that makes them feel better knowing it honestly and truly came from the heart.
You can choose from different boxes.

Ours was the perfect Get Well/Thinking of You box. Inside was everything to warm up your heart, or your belly. 1/2 Gallon of Old Fashioned Chicken Noodle Soup, handmade in the old fashion way when Grandmother’s believed their soups could cure any ailments, and homemade Biscuits and Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. It honestly put a smile on all of our faces and I believed that if it could do that, I knew that it could put a smile on anyone else’s that would receive something so nice.
There are these little touches that made the whole gift for me. The polka dotted ribbons on the jar and ladle, the old fashioned soup in a glass jar, quotes on the boxes that each individually held something special and the way it all came together in a box that said LOVE By The Spoonful.
The pieces of chicken in the Chicken Soup were so large I had to cut them up into littler pieces for Tot. In that 1/2 gallon there must have been 2 good sized chicken breasts with homemade noodles and vegetables. The soup was all set to put on the stove and warm up, the biscuits already cooked and just needing to be toasted for butter and once on the table lunch became a happy medium for our family.
The next time you feel sad you can’t be there for someone or helpless when it comes to a loved one being sick so far away, remember that there is a place that you can go to send love and support. Why send the typical gift basket when you can send a piece of home and the warmth of a meal? You can even include Hot Tea, Cocoa, Blankets or Cozy Socks. Spoonful of Comfort is a complete care package.
A portion of all the proceeds from your gifts goes towards Cancer Research in memory of Mona Bowes, her mother. Your support goes towards research, education, advocacy and programs for those in need. In this way your gift gives back full circle.
